A Message from the Executive Director

As we move into spring, I’m filled with pride reflecting on the incredible progress we’ve made at Pivot Riverside. The school year is flying by, and I’m excited to share all we’ve accomplished together.

As you will read about, this semester, our students have shown tremendous growth, not just academically, but in resilience and determination. Whether they’ve been catching up on credits or getting ahead, we have provided a balanced approach that supports students at every step of their journey. We’re proud to offer opportunities for students to graduate early and empower them to accelerate their academic goals while ensuring they are fully prepared for what lies ahead.

Pivot Family Homerooms

Parents play a crucial role in their student’s success, and having the right tools and knowledge can make all the difference. To support families in this journey, Pivot Charter School has introduced Family Homerooms—a virtual informational series designed to keep parents informed, engaged, and empowered to support their students in the unique learning environment that Pivot provides.

“Parents are our greatest partners in student success,” said Abigail Titus, Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. “Family Homerooms offer a space where they can ask questions, gain clarity on their student’s progress, and learn about the many resources available to help their student thrive.”

Each session is interactive, covering essential areas like:

  • Understanding academic progress: How to assess course completion, credits, and key learning benchmarks
  • Encouraging students to ask for help: Supporting students in developing self-advocacy and utilizing Pivot’s available resources
  • State testing and student learning: Insights into the benefits of state assessments and how families can help students prepare
  • Mental health support with Soluna: Exploring a new mental health platform and how it can help students

Students and Staff Unite for Fire Relief: Pivot Riverside's Community Impact

Pivot Riverside recently organized a successful donation drive to support local communities impacted by recent fires in Southern California. Led by Educational Coordinator Dr. Mackenzie Jessip, the initiative was designed to give students and staff a chance to actively participate in community service.

“As a school within the Southern California region, our community felt a sense of responsibility to support their neighbors in need,” shared Mackenzie. “We did this to provide an opportunity for Pivot students to engage in a meaningful act of community service and contribute to a larger cause, instilling in them the values of empathy and compassion for those experiencing hardship.”

The drive not only helped those in immediate need but also served as a powerful lesson on the impact of collective action.

Students collected and donated canned food, clothing, and toiletries, and Community Liaison Ana Martinez delivered the goods to two fire relief donation centers in Pasadena, where a third party then brought them in closer proximity to those affected.
