Lake Ontario Offshore Racing -

January 9, 2025 Newsletter.

Happy New Year!

Greetings to all LOOR Racers,

2024 was a great year for offshore racing and I think 2025 will be even better. The Toronto International Boat Show is set for January 18th to 26th and We’ll be at the LOOR booth #1797. We hope to see everyone there again this year, say hi, and have a chat about the great racing on Lake Ontario.

The 2025 season will see a big change as the LOOR has switched to Nautical Cloud for all race registrations. This new system works far better for our multiple race events and streamlines many of the function racers used to do several times. Also, the semi-annual running for the LO600 returns for those that really want to test their skill and endurance. We're also very pleased that driveHG is returning as our LOOR sponsor for 2025, their support for all our events has been amazing over the years.

All of us at the Lake Ontario Offshore Racing Organizing Authority would like to wish all of you a Happy New Year and a great 2025.

Stay safe, and get ready for an exciting and challenging 2025 race season.

Fair winds to all.

LOOR Coastal Survival Course requirements for 2025 for its OSR Category 3 Events

For 2025, the only change is that the person in charge is required to have the training, along with the 2024 requirement of 15% of the crew, with the Person-in-Charge (PIC) included in the count. You only need the Sail Canada Coastal Personal Survival Course (One day) or equivalent. The Sail Canada Offshore Survival Course (Two day) is accepted, but not required.

Other key items.

  • There are no requirements for LOOR LOSHRS Day Races.
  • For non Canadian residents, many countries have courses that could be considered equivalent. Before signing up for a training course outside of Canada, please ask us if the course would be considered equivalent.
  • Ontario Sailing is continually adding courses, please periodically check to determine what’s available at COURSE REGISTRATION and select the category of Offshore and Coastal Personal Survival Course.
  • If you are having a hard time finding a course to attend, please send a note to registrar@loor.ca and we will be happy to guide you.

LOOR moving to Nautical Cloud as its Race Management System for 2025

Nautical Cloud was developed with the needs of both offshore racers and race organizers in mind, offers comprehensive digital checklists seamlessly integrated with event deadlines. This innovative platform allows participants and organizers to focus on key aspects of the event without getting bogged down by administrative tasks. The platform acts as an integrated portal for all LOOR events. This coordinated approach reduces the effort required by the boat owner/Person-in-Charge (PiC), crew and the LOOR volunteer registration team. Examples of the streamlining is that the acceptance of risk, upload of Personal Survival Course Certificate, etc. only have to be done annually or on expiry of the certificate.

The intent is to launch registration on the Nautical Cloud platform for the 2025 season ahead of the Toronto International Boat Show. To ensure a smooth transition, LOOR will provide detailed documentation and updated instructional videos on its YouTube channel to guide participants in effectively using Nautical Cloud.

Linking to the portal will be provided from www.loor.ca, so check the web site for activation of the new system for registration for LOOR events in 2025.

North Sails invites you to a LOSHRS cocktail party during the upcoming Toronto International Boat Show.

Join the North Sails team and your fellow LOSHRS racers for an evening dedicated to LOSHRS racing - Reflect on the season past and get excited for 2025.

The party is set for January 23rd from 6-8pm (show is open until 10pm) at the North Sails booth. 1431/1435.

1 complimentary drink per LOSHRS competitor and please RSVP to louisa.bobyk@northsails.com

There will also be a 1 hour presentation at 8pm at the Sailor’s Hub presentation area that will go over Long Distance Racing and the LOSHRS series of races. If you’re thinking of doing any long distance racing then please join us and find out what its all about and how to get started.

Real Estate Referral Program for LOOR Racers/Organizers.

It's been a pleasure to support our sport as a sponsor of LOOR over the last few years. From giveaways to collaborating with global brands, such as Mount Gay Rum, to help elevate your regatta experience. Our Lake Ontario 300 Rum Pour, in particular, is always so much fun to host and a season highlight every year! As someone who understands the expenses of both running large races and participating in one; I would like to further support in two meaningful ways. With this, it is my pleasure to introduce my Real Estate Referral Program for LOOR Racers/Organizers.

For every closed referral over $500,000, Will French of CHK Real Estate will:

1. Make a $1000 donation to Lake Ontario Offshore Racing (LOOR) in the client's name.

2. [If the client is also a LOOR competitor] Reimburse all the client's LOOR racing entry fees for the current year (Susan Hood, Lake Ontario 300 & LOSHRS)

These are two ways I'm excited to contribute to our community while still offering a premium, full service experience when buying and/or selling your next home.

Our Team, CHK Real Estate, specializes in (yet is not limited to) Luxury Real Estate from South Oakville to Toronto and is a proud member of the Keller Williams Luxury Community. Give me a call anytime to learn more or, better yet, visit our office in Port Credit (103 Lakeshore Rd E, Mississauga).

I look forward to seeing you on the water and helping you get across the finish line, a winner, for all your real estate needs.

Cheers,
