The Saline County Road and Bridge Department is planning several improvements to county roads to maintain and improve local transportation routes.
Planned Projects for 2025

Asphalt Overlay and Patching: Scheduled for Water Well Road, from Ohio Street to Smoky Hill River Bridge, and Burma Road, from Smolan Road to Falun Road. These improvements will help preserve the pavement and extend its life. (See the black line on the map.)

Chip Sealing: About 31 miles of roads are planned for chip sealing, which helps maintain road surfaces and improves drivability. (See the blue line on the map.)

Ohio Street Improvements: Ohio Street, from Mentor Road to Water Well Road, will be elevated and re-graveled, using a chemical base stabilizer for added durability. The design phase is currently underway.

Schippel Road Bridge and Simpson Road Improvements: This project will replace a drainage structure near the Schippel/Simpson Road intersection and improve Simpson Road from Schippel Road to Campbell Road. (See the brown rectangle on the map.)

Water Well Road Replacement: The Water Well Road bridge, which began in 2024, will continue into 2025. (See the brown rectangle on the map.)

Reinforced Concrete Box Construction: Six deteriorating drainage structures will be replaced with reinforced concrete box structures. (See the light blue circle on the map.)
Ongoing and Completed 2024 Projects
As the county prepares for 2025, the following projects are already underway or completed in the last quarter of 2024:

Pipe Lining Projects: A total of 21 pipe locations are scheduled for lining work. Mayer Specialty Services was awarded the contract for $554,463.95, and the installation of concrete and PVC liners began this year and will continue into 2025.

Chip Sealing: Circle C Paving completed several miles of chip sealing across the county for $1,021,633.

Water Well Road Replacement: Construction east of Gypsum Valley Road is slated to begin this month under a contract awarded to King Construction for $825,548.62. The project is expected to take 6-7 months.

Crack Sealing: Pavement Pros has been contracted for $130,480 to complete crack sealing. This work is expected to be finished by late fall 2024.

Asphalt Overlay: APAC-Kansas is under contract for $1,183,482.26 to overlay Halstead Road, from K-140 to I-70, State Street from K-140 to Halstead Road, and Pleasant Hill Road from Hedville Road, west 0.5 miles.

Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation (SMART) Award: Saline County received this Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) grant to obtain a drone and advanced survey sensors, which will allow for enhanced road surveying and data collection techniques. Delivery is expected by the end of 2024.
