Summer Camp 2025 - March Newsletter

Dear Summer Camp Volunteer,

I don't know about you, but it seemed like a long winter, but spring is coming on March 20th! That means summer camp season is rapidly approaching.

Camperships

I want to highlight the coming deadline for campership applications - April 1st. The program is available to Scouts from any council that has demonstrated need. Please make sure all information is completed on the application. Partially completed applications will be rejected by the committee. Information on our council's program is available at: https://www.ockanickon.org/osr-campership.

Camp Fees

A reminder that the discounted-rate tier is available through April 30th. Starting May 1st the Regular Rate of $595 will apply to any Youth slots. AOL Crossover rate of $540 remains available through May 31st. Contact Michelle with any questions on camp fees.

Full Participant Types & Sold Out Weeks

A note from our business manager, Michelle. You may have noticed as you make your payments, that some participant types for Scouts show as "FULL" or that your week of camp says "SOLD OUT". Does this mean that you cannot add more Scouts to your registration? No, it doesn't. A sold out week simply means that we are no longer accepting new Troop reservations in that week. We keep a close watch on those weeks going forward and limit the number of open Youth & AOL spots. If Troops need to add more Scouts to a "FULL" category, reach out to Michelle and she will add the spots to your registration. We will add Campership spots for the Troops that have campership recipients.

Custom T-shirt Pre-Orders

Last year we added the opportunity for Troops to customize the OSR summer Camp t-shirt with their Troop information. It was a such a big success that we have decided to do it again and we are even able to offer an additional month for orders to be placed this year. The design, pricing details & online ordering can be found here. Place one complete pre-paid order for your Troop as a whole by May 15th. Reach out to Michelle with any questions.

Video Tutorial Series

We just recorded our third video in the summer camp tutorial series. This video covers medications at camp and the AHMR (the health form). You can access this video and others in the series from our forms & resources page at: https://www.ockanickon.org/forms-resources

We will create future videos on these topics: registration requirements, background check requirements, and Merit Badge sign-ups. Stay tuned!

Pre-camp Leaders Meeting

While the video tutorial series is designed to get information out to you sooner, we are still planning to hold a pre-camp leaders meeting via Zoom on May 3rd starting at 9:00am. Our hope is the length of the meeting will be shortened due to the pre-recorded video series.

Advanced registration is required to attend the webinar. The register link is https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_YtkAl85YTomvUjPVbJ-C1w. Feel free to share this link with any leader from your unit involved with summer camp planning.

Program Updates

The program team is in the process of updating the Merit Badge listing to include notes from the area director, requirements not completed at camp and suggested minimum age. This spreadsheet will be updated with an indication of lottery and non-lottery sessions. You can access the 2025 program planning guide, Merit Badge listing and a first-year program requirements list from the forms & resources page.

Program questions can be directed to our program team at: program@ockanickon.org.
