President's Message

Another school year is about to conclude, and we have a lot to look back on and take pride in. LIBTA hosted two professional development conferences for our members, and we strengthened our connection to the NYS Department of Education. Our annual contest registered 239 students and hosted the winners, their families, and several retirees and honorees at our awards luncheon on May 20th. We added a new exam: Investments.

If you were not able to join us, please see below for pictures and information – if you don’t have a picture of your student and their award, please email us at longislandbusiness1@gmail.com so we can send you a copy.

Before you leave for the summer break, please register for LIBTA membership. We will be sending out the registration form for the 2025-2026 school year shortly. Your membership represents a commitment to excellence in Business Education, and is valuable.

We are planning a Fall Conference after school in November that will focus on lesson plans that you can use in the classroom, including Financial Literacy and Economics. And if you would like to be a part of our organization as a Board member, we welcome your presence and contribution.

Being a part of a professional organization has been meaningful for me. I have met more people from different schools that I would at a DECA event or at the Adelphi Apprentice day. To broaden your connections, be active at our conferences and seek out your peers. Each school has such different class offerings and programs that you can share. We promise to keep you apprised of the changes that are coming to our profession, such as the NYS graduation requirement for Financial Literacy.

Have a great rest of the school year, and a rejuvenating summer!

Our organization has heard its members' concerns about obtaining these hours.  The Long Island Business Teachers Association is proud to announce that we have been approved by The New York State Education Department (NYSED) as a certified provider of Continuing Teacher and Leader Education as of July 28, 2017. As a result your Long Island Business Teachers Membership will include opportunities to attend NYSED approved staff development hours where we will implement training to increase teacher knowledge.
