If 2025 had a theme at San Marcos Regional Airport, it would be momentum.

This year, the airport reached record-breaking annual aircraft operations, marking the highest level of activity we’ve ever seen. From flight training growth to increased general aviation use, the airfield stayed busy and that activity tells an important story: San Marcos Regional Airport continues to grow as a regional aviation hub.

But the numbers were just the beginning.

Throughout the year, we made steady progress behind the scenes to ensure the airport keeps pace with that growth. We advanced planning tied to the FAA’s upcoming 2027 NPIAS update, launched a new online portal to simplify based aircraft reporting, and finalized work on our Airport Master Plan Amendment. We also secured major funding milestones, including a significant EDA grant for a new airport entrance and FAA funding to move dedicated taxilanes from concept to reality.

On the operational side, 2025 brought meaningful improvements that pilots and tenants could see and feel. A new reserved ramp parking program was rolled out to improve organization and safety as activity levels increased.

Safety stayed front and center all year long. From runway safety discussions and Foreign Object Debris awareness to storm preparedness reminders and vehicle access controls, we focused on keeping people, aircraft, and infrastructure protected. The full restoration of the airport’s Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) added another layer of reliability to daily operations.

And it wasn’t all meetings and pavement.

This year also highlighted what makes the San Marcos aviation community special. Airport Advisory Board meetings brought stakeholders together, creativity took center stage during the airport t-shirt design contest, and the Spring Cleaning event resulted in thousands of pounds of material being responsibly disposed of or recycled, all thanks to tenant participation.

One of the most exciting developments of 2025 was the announcement and planning of San Marcos’ newest airshow. While the event was postponed due to the federal government shutdown, the extensive coordination and outreach throughout the year were far from wasted. That groundwork has set the stage for an even stronger airshow experience, now scheduled for 2026.

Meanwhile, flight training activity continued to climb. Expanded programs and future capacity planning reinforced the airport’s growing role in aviation education and workforce development across Central Texas.

As we look ahead, the success of 2025 belongs to the people who make this airport work every day: tenants, pilots, controllers, partners, volunteers, and staff. Thank you for being part of a year that set records, strengthened foundations, and built real momentum for what’s next.

Here’s to an even bigger 2026!
