Morning Atamai "Voices from the Community: Disability and Resilience in Emergencies."

The latest Morning Atamai session brought together students and community members for an engaging and meaningful conversation on “Disability and Resilience in Emergencies.” The depth and quality of the discussion made for a truly impactful experience for our inclusive-Emergency Management trainees and Order of the Sword and Shield members.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Alofaeleuma Faualo, who joined us and generously shared his lived experience. His insights highlighted important concerns and fears in emergency management planning, offering a powerful reminder of the need for more inclusive, community-informed approaches.

By centering community voices, we move closer to building systems that are responsive, inclusive, and grounded in real-world needs.

National Science Foundation On-Site Visit for Strengthening CHIEFS in STEM Grant

We were honored to welcome Mr. Mason Bishop for his on-site visit this Flag Day celebration week, in support of one of our grants from the National Science Foundation, Strengthening a Cohesive Higher Institution Engaging Faculty and Students (C.H.I.E.F.S.) in STEM.

iEM, OSS, & Lion's Club at the ASCC College Visit Day

The inclusive-Emergency Management program, Order of the Sword and Shield, as well as the Lion's Club, participated in this year’s ASCC College Visit Day, initiated by the Admissions Office. Our booth welcomed visiting seniors with information about our degree offerings, student opportunities, and pathways for academic and leadership development.

Student representatives engaged attendees in meaningful conversations about campus life and program experiences, while interactive activities like our Plinko game and giveaways helped create a fun and inviting atmosphere. We were honored to connect with the Class of 2026 and share how they can begin their academic journey with us at ASCC.

Americans with Disabilities Act Training at ASCC

Earlier this month, the Pacific Center in Human Security had the privilege of delivering a training session for faculty and staff at American Samoa Community College focused on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The session provided an opportunity to explore the importance of accessibility, inclusion, and equitable practices in educational environments. Participants engaged in thoughtful discussions on how policies translate into everyday actions that support individuals with disabilities and strengthen institutional commitment to inclusivity.

We are grateful for the active participation and shared commitment to building more accessible and supportive spaces for all. Together, we continue working toward a future where equity and inclusion are not just goals, but standard practice.

Money Follows the Person Presentation at the AS Medicaid State Agency Summit

The Pacific Center in Human Security (PCHS) was proud to serve as a partner for the American Samoa Medicaid State Agency Summit, held at the Multi-Purpose Center from Tuesday, March 24, through Wednesday, March 25. The summit was guided by the theme, “Strengthening a Health-Resilient American Samoa.”

During the event, PCHS highlighted the Money Follows the Person (MFP) demonstration and outlined key steps needed to bring this initiative to fruition in American Samoa. PCHS State Director Tafaimamao Tua-Tupuola led the presentation on MFP and also participated in the Day 2 panel discussion, which focused on where prevention begins and strategies for building a more health-resilient American Samoa.

The summit also emphasized the importance of collaboration in advancing care systems across the territory. AS Medicaid HCBS Specialist and Data Analyst, Beverly Liu Tu’ufuli, delivered an outstanding presentation on Home- and Community-Based Services (HCBS). PCHS values its ongoing partnership with her and her team as efforts continue to strengthen HCBS in American Samoa.
