Leveraging her background as a biology teacher and instructional coach, Dr. Cook created and personally delivered a Biology SOL remediation program characterized by targeted intervention, confidence-building, and flexible scheduling. More than 20 students have participated, with a 100 percent pass rate. Seniors increased scores from the 390s to above 439 and graduated on time.
Her influence also shaped Jamestown’s “Flight Time” intervention block, built into the master schedule for enrichment, remediation, and individualized support. Students with disabilities demonstrated measurable growth, including increases of 61.36% in reading, 46% in writing, and 57.14% in math.
Teachers describe Dr. Cook as the most trusted administrator in the building. She conducts wellness walkthroughs, coaches instruction, checks in on staff well-being, and builds collaborative structures that empower educators and students to lead. Students note that she knows them personally, holds high expectations, and advocates for their success.
Jamestown Principal Karen Scott remarked, “Above all, Dr. Cook exemplifies integrity, empathy, and purpose. She leads with clarity and conviction, inspiring trust and collaboration among students, staff, and families. Her capacity to unite diverse stakeholders around a shared vision of excellence has had a lasting and transformative effect on our school community.”
Beyond Jamestown, Dr. Cook contributes statewide through her recent presentation, “The ‘New’ ISS: Using Restorative Practices to Change Student Behavior,” at the 97th Virginia Middle & High School Principals Conference (2025) and service on the Virginia Commission on Youth Tidewater Roundtable (2024–2025), WJCC Capital Improvement Development Committee (2024–2025), and WJCC Code of Conduct Committee (2024–2025).
Cook will represent Virginia in the National Association of Secondary School Principals' (NASSP) National Assistant Principal of the Year Program.
