Healthy Reminders with Maya

September is a great time to pause and remind ourselves that self-care is essential—not only for our personal well-being, but also for creating a healthier workplace.

Taking care of yourself can mean setting healthy boundaries, taking a break when needed, staying connected, or simply making time to recharge. Just as importantly, caring for others through kindness, support, and understanding can make a meaningful difference in our workplace culture.

Continue to learn and share simple ways we can prioritize well-being, support one another, and help create a healthier, more positive workplace for everyone.

This September, let’s make self-care and caring for others part of our everyday workplace culture.

Suicide Awareness Month

September is Suicide Awareness Month, a time to encourage compassion, reduce stigma, and remind one another that support is always within reach. This month offers an opportunity to share resources, promote open conversation about mental health, and ensure employees know where to turn if they or someone they care about needs help. You can include the resource link provided to make access to support simple and visible.

Honoring the 25th Anniversary of 9/11

As the 25th anniversary of 9/11 approaches, this day offers a moment for quiet reflection and meaningful acknowledgment. You might observe a moment of silence at 8:46 AM, organize a volunteer activity in honor of the victims and first responders, or share a simple, respectful tribute message with your team.

Even small gestures can create space for remembrance and honor the significance of the day. Check out this toolkit.

Understanding Suicide

Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. Over 49,000 people died by suicide in 2023. That’s one death every 11 minutes. Suicide was the third leading cause of death among people ages 15 to 29 globally in 2021.

Suicide is a tragedy that affects families, communities and entire countries. And it has long-lasting effects on the people left behind. Understanding the facts can help prevent it. Here are some important points:

  • It’s complex: It involves mental health, life events and personal factors.
  • Anyone can be at risk: It doesn’t matter what your social or economic status is.
  • Warning signs: People often show signs before attempting suicide.
  • High risk after an attempt: Prior attempts increase the risk of future attempts.
