Participant Guide
Please be sure to read the Participant Guide. This includes all the rules for you, your pacers and your crew. We've made a significant change in performance rule #4: The use of poles and tractions devices such as microspikes will be allowed.
Training Runs
One of the best ways to become familiar with the course is to come to our training runs on Memorial Day Weekend (May 23-25). We cover the final 70 miles of the course over three days. These are not races but supported training runs. For more details see our website. Registration will be open exclusively to runners in the 2026 race until December 22 when it will be open up to the public. You should have already received an invite to register through UltraSignup.
Refund Schedule and Wait List
If you must withdraw for any reason, the next person on the wait list will be given the opportunity to take your place on the start line. If you withdraw before 1 pm on Friday before the race, you will retain your lottery tickets. We will refund part of your entry fee:
75% if you withdraw by May 1, 2026
50% between May 2 and June 9, 2026
25% between June 10 and June 20, 2026
no refund after June 20, 2026
Because we exhausted our 50-person wait list in 2021, we have been drawing 75 names for the wait list. The 2026 wait list can be seen here.
Trail Work
Since the pandemic the WSER board has not required volunteer work and won't again for the 2026 race. We still encourage you to help out with trail work with us or at races in your state or country. As you may be aware, we have been working on a ~$2M reroute of the trail in Granite Chief Wilderness for the last three years. Because the work season is very short and the work is being done by hand, we have six post-race weekends scheduled in the summer of 2026. Please consider joining us to complete this unique project, which will significantly improve the runner experience. There are also a couple of opportunities to work on the trail prior to the race. Sign up here.
Enjoy the journey to the start line at Olympic Valley.
Don't hesitate to ask me or Carrie if you have any questions.
