2040: Join the Regeneration
Learn about, contribute to, advocate for and invest
in regenerative solutions to improve our planet.
Sunday, September 25 @ 2pm
Mees Hall, Capital University (Hint: park E. Main @ Drexel Ave)
The 2040 journey began with award-winning director Damon Gameau (That Sugar Film). Motivated by concerns about the planet his 4-year-old daughter would inherit, Damon embarked on a global journey to meet innovators and changemakers in the areas of economics, technology, civil society, agriculture, education and sustainability. Drawing on their expertise, he sought to identify the best solutions, available to us now, that would help improve the health of our planet and the societies that operate within it. From marine permaculture to decentralized renewable energy projects, he discovered that people all over the world are taking matters into their own hands. Watch the Trailer.
This journey is the central premise for the documentary ‘2040’, a story of hope that looks at the very real possibility that humanity could reverse global warming and improve the lives of every living thing in the process. It is a positive vision of what ‘could be’, instead of the dystopian future we are so often presented.”

Kenedy Witherow Kenedy@simplyliving.org
Hello! My name is Kenedy Witherow. I am in my third and final year at The Ohio State University studying Environment, Economy, Development and Sustainability with a specialization in Business and Sustainability. I am very excited to be an intern for Simply Living! I have always been interested in environmental conservation and sustainability, and am especially interested in promoting sustainable consumer behavior. Along with Simply Living, I am also working for SIG, the Sustainable Investment Group (found here), which is a consulting firm in the green building industry. SIG offers sustainability recommendations and certifications to new and existing buildings across the country. In the future, I hope to work as a consultant and help businesses push their consumers to be more sustainable while also providing better products and services for the earth. In my free time I enjoy reading, baking, and scuba diving. If you’d like to reach out to me, I’d love to talk!
Recommendation. Hi all, my recommendation for this week is this brief article from my favorite gas app - GasBuddy! The article caught my attention because it mentioned that after September 15th, gasoline may be cheaper due to the nationwide switch to winter-grade gasoline. The main difference is that summer gas has a lower volatility, so that it doesn’t evaporate as quickly from a car’s fuel system. Winter gas has a higher volatility and is cheaper to produce, so gasoline costs in the winter tend to decrease. I urge you to check out the article and learn about how gasoline prices may be affected by climate and weather. The link to the article can be found here.

Abby Esch As a fourth-year at Ohio State, I am taking a capstone class for my major, Environmental Policy. For this capstone I am working in a group with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, to aid in their WILD school programs, which you can read about here.
This project aims to increase the participation of urban schools in Project WILD, thus contributing to environmental problem-solving by creating more environmental interest in urban youth. Giving these children a greater chance to have a connection with the environment will encourage understanding of the importance of caring for our environment, as well as helping their personal well-being by giving them a connection to the physical world around them.
The core goal of this project is to analyze and determine how to effectively increase access and the long-term sustainability of projects in urban, public schools within Ohio.
- Identify high priority schools, which will be the focus schools for WILD site expansion
- Identify barriers in the application process that prevent urban schools from participating
- Improve understanding of the WILD school project process and reach new audiences through marketing materials and feasible urban project options
If you are interested in learning more about this project or have any relevant resources or comments please feel free to email me at Abby@simplyliving.org

Natural Plant Dyeing Workshop
Sun Sep 25th 1:00pm - 4:00pm
Columbus Garden School
1350 E Cooke Rd, Cbus 43224 map
Come discover the thrill of using flowers and plants to dye fiber and fabric with gorgeous colors. You will learn the basics of natural plant dyeing, mordanting, and which plants make good colorfast dyes.
Marigold, black-eyed Susan, dahlia, goldenrod, and walnut will be some of the plants we harvest and all make beautiful dye baths. Natural dyeing is flourishing today as people explore ways to create beautiful and colorful handmades in a more sustainable way. It is a great alternative to synthetic dyes which rely on the coal industry to produce them.
The yarn skein we will dye is perfect for knitting up a hat and comes from a local Ohio fiber shop. The yarn is a gorgeous chunky Corriedale yarn and is very soft. We will also dye a silk scarf.
There will be additional silk scarves to purchase and you are welcome to bring your own premordanted silks and wool to dye once we've finished the class projects.
Class limit 10 students; minimum 6 registrations needed to hold class. Invite your friends and family to join the fun!
Due to COVID, all students/instructors attending classes are required to wear a face mask while indoors.
INSTRUCTOR: Celia is a crafter, gardener, and garden designer. She teaches adult crafting workshops; including plant dyeing, shibori dye, and sashiko stitching. She has an art degree, a bilingual teaching degree, and a Handwork certificate from Rudolf Steiner College. In the winter she spends her time sewing, knitting, and mending. In the warmer months she is in her native habitat out in the garden; where she has focused on creating an edible food forest. She grows berries, fruit trees, herbs, and pollinator plants with a special focus on native plants and their impact on wildlife, soil, and water health.

Look at your world from your own point of view, not from some point in space. Modestly measure with your own yardstick, after your own status, your own predicament, the status and the predicament of man the earthdweller. Then life is large enough
and a thing of consequence; and night endless, deep.

Thursday, September 29, 2022, 12:00 – 1:00 PM. Meet the Academics of Churches for Middle East Peace. CMEP boasts a growing number of researchers and academics as members of the team. Join CMEP for this invitation into some of exciting research these academics are developing. This is an opportunity to engage with internal conversations and emerging areas of interest. While CMEP's work most often focuses on politics, members of the CMEP team are currently engaging on a variety of topics ranging from connections between archeology, theology, and politics; higher education in Bethlehem; the experience of American Palestinians; and disability. Hear brief presentations from the below CMEP researchers and engage in Q & A to follow. This event will also serve as a fundraiser for CMEP's Ambassador Warren Clark Fellowship. Registration for this event is free but we are also accepting donations towards the AWCF program with hopes to fully fund one year of the program for two fellows.
