First Reading:
Thus says the LORD:
Observe what is right, do what is just;
for my salvation is about to come,
my justice, about to be revealed. (Is 56:1)
Second Reading:
Just as you once disobeyed God but have now received mercy because of their disobedience,
so they have now disobeyed in order that, by virtue of the mercy shown to you, they too may now receive mercy. (Rom 11:30-31)
Gospel:
Jesus said to her in reply,
“O woman, great is your faith!
Let it be done for you as you wish.”
And the woman’s daughter was healed from that hour. (Mt 15:28)

Mass for the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Saturday, August 15 at 8:00 am at St. Thomas Aquinas
What lessons can I learn from the Assumption of Mary?
Mary is a model of sanctity. She shows us how to be faithful to God’s will, living each day with confidence in God’s mercy and love. At the Nativity, in Jesus’ public ministry, and at the Crucifixion, we see her steadfast trust. She allows the Lord to use her life to accomplish his plan for her and for all of us. In the Preface of the Mass for the Assumption of Mary, we pray: “For today the Virgin Mother of God was assumed into heaven as the beginning and image of your Church’s coming to perfection and a sign of sure hope and comfort to your pilgrim people.”
It is this image of holiness that we strive to imitate. In the office, at home, or in our community, we look for signs of God’s grace that call us to an ever greater love of him and each other. A greater awareness of God is a sign of our conversion of heart that lives the lessons Mary teaches.

As I indicated last week, it is my intent to draw from the St. John the Baptist Endowment Fund to meet whatever portion of the budgeted $628K deficit actually materializes during the current fiscal year because of revenue shortfalls.

Missionary Appeal - August 15-16
|
|
This is the Annual Mission Appeal Weekend with Zeru Zeru, Inc. Thank you to the Boos family for being with us virtually during this pandemic. If you haven't yet turned in your mission specific envelope, this is the time to bring it in. Please write checks payable to the parish and include “Mission Appeal - Zeru Zeru Inc” in the memo line. You are also able to donate online through our parish website https://www.sjbplymouth.org/Give. Thank you in advance for any monetary amount of support you are able to provide.
The funds collected through our twinning relationship with ZeruZeru, Inc. continue to pay for the protection, care, and education of the vulnerable children at the center. Sister Helena has reported that it is an especially dangerous time for people with albinism in Tanzania due to the coronavirus and upcoming elections. We are all struggling in this unprecedented time, however, let us continue to come together as one family, sharing our love and kindness, generosity and prayer where and when we are able.
FACEBOOK ROSARY - We will have a special rosary, live on Facebook this Friday, August 14, in honor of our Zeru Zeru mission appeal that takes place this weekend - don’t miss a chance to pray with us and with the children from The Center in Lamadi. Click here to go to Facebook.
