22 Wise Tips You Wish You’d Known Sooner – how to make hindsight a thing of the past

Hello Carole Ann,

Firstly, thank you to my lovely subscribers who sent such kind words and support after my newsletter last week. My life has been upended by family illness but I am taking the steps and calming my thoughts by staying in the present and relishing the bliss of small pleasures. Your kinds words helped.

So forgive me for recycling this newsletter sent out 2 years ago. I’ve updated and added and I hope you can find a few tasty tidbits of tapas for your psyche to snack on.

In the meantime, love your loved ones and enjoy what you can each day.

Do you wish your vision was the same as five years ago? I guess hindsight is 2020.

Sorry I couldn’t resist that joke.  But looking back, it’s interesting how often we wish we could do things differently when we see how things did pan out. Even if someone had told us what was going to happen the question is - would we listen?

So don’t say I didn’t warn because here I am sooth saying and truth saying to give you 22 things one day you may wish you’d known and done something about. You’re welcome.

  • Putting yourself first more often
  • We only have 4000 weeks in our lives but many of us are living for the weekends and bank holidays. What will make each week or each day worth remembering?
  • Understand that you need to stay in your own lane and go at your own pace. Stop looking at what other people are doing and live your best life.
  • Pausing in the knowledge that time can heal, and small niggles can easily blow over. Give it time.
  • Decide to show yourself unconditional self-forgiveness for your past goofs, gaffs and graceless moments. We all do it. You are not perfect, nor should you try to be.
  • Understand that some people are visitors to our lives and not permanent residents. Learn from these guests.
  • Dressing for confidence as well as comfort is a good look.
  • People let us down and we often expect too much from others. If you have ever loved or enjoyed their company forgive where you can. It’s worth letting small disappointments go to keep a special person in your life.
  • Acting “as if” what you want is already here really does have a very strange and rather magical effect.
  • Be 100% present to those you love. Including your pets. Stop multitasking and start mono loving.
  • Meet people’s eyes and give warm handshakes not bone-crushers or limp fish flaps.
  • Smile a lot more than you are currently doing. There’s always something to be grateful for. (BTW smiles are contagious. Pass them on).
  • Stop taking things personally. It’s a form of self-harm and makes you the victim. It may not be about you.
  • Feel justified in being you without anybody else’s approval.
  • Dare to have hope. It’s a strength worth cultivating.
  • Develop patience. It really is a superpower.
  • Get that first impressions aren’t always accurate.
  • Adore your food. Relish it. It’s not the enemy.
  • Dreams remain dreams unless you action them.
  • Tomorrow sometimes never comes. Act now.
  • You won’t regret on your dying day that you didn’t take enough photos of your food and posted them on social media.
  • Build in fun or a moment of bliss every day. Even this day is precious.
