Ask the Official by Dave Zednik
Question: After a goal was legally scored a fight broke out and the officials assessed the penalties and removed the goal that was scored before the fight. Was this the correct call?

Answer: NO. Rules Reference 409(d). All minor and bench minor penalties occurring after a goal has been scored or during the stoppage of play when a penalty shot is being attempted, shall be served in the normal manner under this rule.

Question: Can the Referee impose penalties that occur during the pregame warm-up?

Answer: Yes. Rule References 401(a Note 1) and 502(a). The Officials should enter the ice prior to the start of the warm-up period and must personally witness the incident in order for penalties to be assessed. All penalties imposed during the pregame warm-up begin at the opening face-off.

After two scoreless periods, Minnesota struck, grabbing a 1-0 lead 8:12 into the third period. The Mission answered about 4 minutes later with a Ella Pukala power-play goal, assisted by Nicole Gorbatenko and Lily Babnik. They were tied after regulation-time, but that ended quickly as Rachel Gorbatenko scored less than a minute into overtime, assisted by her sister, Nicole, and Pukala. The Mission went wild on the ice.
