Now is a great time to plant cannas in zones 8 and warmer, for example:
Zone 9: Arizona, Southern California, Florida, Southern Texas
Zone 8: Charlotte, NC, Atlanta, GA San Francisco, CA, Chattanooga, TN, Dallas, TX, Salem, OR, Carlsbad, NM
Up next: zone 7 gardeners can usually start planting cannas the first of April:
Central Oklahoma, Northern Texas, Northern Arkansa, Western Tennessee, Virginia, Southern New Mexico, Northeast Arizona, Southeast Utah,
Western Nevada
Bulbs ship daily, plants will ship the first week of May!
Bulbs ship the same day if ordered by noon (CST). Regardless of where you live, feel free to order anytime; we will ship your order on your requested shipping date.
Live plants are growing well in the greenhouse (shown to the right) and will be ready to ship during the first week of May.
A great resource for determining current soil temperatures in your area is this interactive map. Enter your zip code and the map will show current soil temperature in your area as well as a 5-day average and historical trends.
For those in colder zones, your time will be here soon! It is better to wait and plant when soil temperatures are consistently 60 degrees or warmer to give your cannas the best start. If you are in the northern climates and want a head start on spring growth, you can begin planting indoors in containers. Starting cannas indoors is certainly not a requirement, but we know many gardeners in Zones 6 and colder like this option. On average, cannas will bloom 90 days after planting.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Recent Notes from our Customers
"We dug up our Cannas in our flower bed before the first freeze. We packed the bulbs in Perlite for the winter. I have a greenhouse and stored the bulbs over the winter. Last week we noticed that we were getting green shoots in all the boxes. We have 140 new canna plants from the original ones we ordered from your company. I highly recommend ordering bulbs from Horn Canna farm!"
