A year ago everything changed. For teachers, for parents, for students, and for the world. We were forced to separate and to face the unknowns of quarantine, fear, bad news, good news, hope, and an endless repetition of it all. Weeks turned into months, months turned into a year, and here we are today. No matter what happened in the last year, no matter how many times we had to gather all of our forces to stand up and keep going, we have overcome it! In light of this, the CNG Social and Emotional Committee would like to invite you to come together as a community to acknowledge the challenges of yesterday, find strength for today, and highlight our hope for tomorrow.
In the days ahead, and to help us unite as a community, all families and staff will receive a small candle to be lit during this event. Please join us in solidarity with our community, to shine the light ahead.
On behalf of the Social and Emotional Committee, we look forward to seeing you on March 16th.
Kind regards,
Catalina Artunduaga, Paula Pérez, Janice Ellerby, Billy Thomas, Jesse Wagner, Juliana Tamayo, Ana María Rodríguez, and María Isabela Gómez

Dear parents,
Our goal throughout the time that we have spent in Distance and Hybrid Learning has been for the Learning Center to become a resource to all CNG parents. In order to do that, we want to continue sharing resources that are useful to all children as we navigate this changing landscape. As you have seen, many of these resources are related to Executive Functions which are a range of skills required for purposeful, goal-directed activity, socially appropriate conduct and independent regulation of action and affect. Put simply, they are the skills that allow a person to work, learn and manage daily life.
In this opportunity we'd like to share some quick tip videos for parents on different aspects of Executive Functioning. We hope you and your family find them useful.

Counselors
Dear CNG Community,
Our CNG Community is a beautifully woven blanket of national and international families. While some of our national families have had their children at CNG since K4 (maybe even alumni themselves), some of our Colombian families and expatriate families have experienced the stressor of moving jobs, homes, and schools. But even our families who don’t move have children who experience the sadness that comes when a friend has to move away.
This is the time of year where some parents know they might need to relocate for a job. This means it is the perfect time to talk about Honesty. Many parents feel they don’t want to say anything about the possible move because a) Well, it might not happen, b) I really don’t want to upset them when there are still 3 months of school left, and c) I really don’t want to upset them.
However, two valuable resources Raising Global Nomads by Robin Pascoe and Third Culture Kids: Growing Up Among Worlds by D. Pollock, Van Reken, and M. Pollock will tell you that you need to talk about it now. Even if the upcoming move isn’t definite, people (including children) need to mentally prepare. Transitioning and moving are stressful and there is a grief process that requires time. Being honest with your children also invites them to be honest with you, even when the news might be difficult to hear (especially when they are teenagers). Also, remember that your child’s friends need time to process that their friend might not be at school in August.
Here’s a link to help you build your R.A.F.T for your upcoming move. Please speak with your division School Counselor if this is your case and you would like support with this difficult conversation. Please speak with your division School Counselor if this is your case and you would like support with this difficult conversation.

Athletics & Condor Activities
“Adjust and improve daily” has been the Condor Activities and Athletics department’s mindset during the pandemic. Our successful first Saturday with on-campus athletics was a great feeling of progressing towards an improved program for CNG students. It truly has been a determined effort from students, coaches/instructors, and parents to make on-campus activities a reality! As we move into Group B, March 13 Saturday practices sessions, we will continually adjust for future weeks. For the first pilot, only students who enrolled in athletics at the beginning of the year will have the opportunity to attend Saturday sessions. Just as a reminder, Saturday practice sessions are also in addition to the regular weekly virtual practice schedule. Our amazing Andean team will be on campus during practice sessions taking photos of our athletes in action. Athletes in action will be a great feature to our already impressive Andean for the 2020-21 school year.
