January 30th, 250 Commemoration Summit a Success!

Thank you for participating

As we move ever close to the commemoration of the founding of the United States and New York’s role in the American Revolution and the continuing struggle to achieve the ideals of liberty and equality set out in the Declaration of Independence, much work is being done at the state and local levels.

We heard about some of this work at NYSTIA’s Virtual 250th Summit held on January 30th. I would like to thank everyone who presented at that summit as well as everyone who attended. The response has been gratifying. Many of you have reached out to follow up and suggest future programming.

I also want to express our gratitude to our web hosts at Travel Alliance Partnership (TAP), with a special shout-out to Adena Miller and Nicole Mahoney for the phenomenal work they did in making this happen.

Save the Dates:

  1. As announced during the January 30th program, we are planning a second annual in-person 250th Commemoration Summit on the morning of Friday, September 12th, 2025, at the Fort William Henry Hotel and Conference Center.
  2. Join us for a panel discussion on Tourism and History: Perfect Together at the New York State History Conference to be held June 5-6, 2025, at the Cultural Education Center in Albany. Stay tuned for more information on that as the program is set.

Worth reading - a note from Bob Provost

Why should the history and tourism communities collaboratively develop plans for the 250th Commemoration?

Culture and heritage tourists often stay longer and spend a lot more money than other tourists do. In fact, one study showed that a culture and heritage tourist spent as much as 38% higher per day and they stayed 22% longer overall compared to other kinds of travelers.

...tourism data on United States’ Culture and Heritage visitors indicates that the level of repeat visitation amongst this group of travelers is higher than that of traditional tourists.
