VERY BIG DEAL:
More Than 2500 Reentrant Employers ARE NOW Listed On 2ndChanceIN.com!
Access to job openings everywhere in Indiana is now available in large and small cities and towns all over the state. Do you live in Loogootee? Or Evansville? Greenfield? Or, South Bend? 2nd Chance Indiana has developed the most comprehensive directory available, providing direct links to more than 2500 Indiana employers who hire people with a criminal record.
Job seekers can apply online to as many potential employers as they wish. But, we know, location is king in the job market. Location means access, so, because you'll need a job that is close enough to home to get and keep a job, it's easy to search jobs available by the distance from your home. And when possible, 2CIN can assist with transportation until a reentrant can afford his or her own reliable vehiicle.
The new expanded list is soon to be promoted state-wide, and the site is predicted in the next year to double from the one million plus visitors in the last 12 months. Watch us grow, as 2nd Chance Indiana reduces recidivism through common sense efforts to help those who need it! Click HERE to go directly to the Employer List!

EXCEEDINGLY GOOD DAY:
Almost 200 Reentrants Took Part In The Central Indiana Second Chance Job Fair!
Faithful organizations, including 2nd Chance Indiana sponsored a recent job fair at P-30, a co-working office space that in many ways supports the whole community at 30th Street and Post Road.
With 25 booths of employers and service providers, there was much to offer someone who needed a job, clothes, or other support services that may be required to get back on their feet as wholly integrated members of their communities.
2CIN's Molly Oliver and Jim Cotterill handled the rush, and as always, at the end of the day, they left a little tired, but greatly enthusiastic about all the people they were able to assist!
Our thanks to P-30, and all the other sponsors!

Chiyoda & 2nd Chance Indiana Meet To Help Reentrants
Chiyoda USA Corporation is a manufacturer and seller of automobile components to buyers across the globe. Located in Greencastle, Indiana, it has a workforce of 180 people, 60 percent of which are justice-impacted. Many need transportation help to get to and from work as they save for their own vehicles.
So, 2nd Chance Indiana's Molly Oliver and Kendra Walker met with MaryGrace Parker, Chiyoda USA's Human Resource Recruiter to discuss developing a transportation program with 2CIN. We look forward to working with Chiyoda!

MARION COUNTY JAIL:
New Graduates Finish Career Path Training!
Under the direction of 2CIN's Director of Training, Doug Evans, another cohort of men from the Marion County Adult Detention Center has spent several weeks to learn what employers will expect from them in the workplace. But more importantly, they are tested to find out what talents and gifts they have so they can find the kind of work at which they will be most successful. These classes prepare students to leave with an understanding of the respect and self reliance a good job can provide, as well as a certificate of graduation, that will go into his record to be considered by the judge who has decision-making power over his probation requirements.
A good job found quickly after release from incarceration can drive down recidivism about 90%, according to studies, and unemployment is connected to poverty, a criminal record, and re-incarceration.

MARION CO. REENTRY COALITION:
Housing Initiative Will Help Reentrants
2CIN's Molly Oliver joined the MCRC meeting that brings together multiple stakeholders who work in reentry and justice-impacted services across Marion County. Updates were shared on housing, policy, healthcare, and upcoming events with a special presentation on the Step Up Housing Initiative which has received funding to launch a new program for justice-impacted individuals who need stable housing after release.
Although the initiative is still in the development stage, organizers shared early concepts and requested feedback from coalition members and community partners. More to come!

CHECK BUT NO CHANGE?
$1.2 Million Settlement Paid From IDOC To Prisoners
The Indiana Department Of Correction (IDOC) has agreed to pay more than $1.2 million to settle a claim that Indiana's Miami Correctional Facility inmates were held in total or near-total darkness in 2020. Windows were covered with metal, and the cells had no working lights. In some cases, live wires hung from the ceiling, shocking people as they tried to move through spaces when they could barely see. This wasn’t simply discomfort—it was deprivation. According to IDOC, the monetary settlements are the only result of the lawsuit and that the settlement does "not include policy or practice changes" at the facility.
There’s something unsettling about a resolution that closes a case but leaves the underlying problem untouched. 2nd Chance Indiana interfaces with folks at IDOC with some frequency. The strongest impression we’ve ever had was one of compassion and justice, so the case in the Miami facility could have been the work of a seriously corrupted manager at some level there. However, $1.2 million says something needs to change. Read More Here!

Support For Reentrants After Incarcertion:
Since 2017 UNITE INDY, now 2nd Chance Indiana, has provided a free web-based system, 2ndChanceIN.com, that connects those released from incarceration with jobs offered by our ever-growing list of employer partners, willing to hire people with a criminal record and pay them a living wage.
The site also offers a huge network of support organizations that can help with housing, drug abatement, licensing, clothing and so much more, Here!
A good job found quickly after release from incarceration can drive down recidivism about 90%, according to studies. Unemployment is connected to poverty, a criminal record, and re-incarceration. Our poorest neighborhoods contain many who have not been able to get good jobs because they have a criminal record, but 2nd Chance Indiana not only connects them with jobs, it also provides van transportation to many sites to help those who do not have affordable or reliable transportation. In some neighborhoods of Marion County unemployment is extremely high and poverty remains the overwhelming cause of violence—as well as lack of opportunity for children.
You can help us to help a reentrant today, Here! To know more, go to 2ndChanceIN.com now. There are a number of choices that are all secure and safe. By sending your tax deductible gift* now we can have a greater impact meeting needs in our community.
Many, many thanks!
