25th Avenue Grade Separation Project Update
INAUGURAL RIDE ON ELEVATED TRACK

The first passenger train runs along San Mateo's new elevated tracks, marking a major project milestone. For over two years, crews worked on the mile-long elevation that incorporates five bridges between Hillsdale Boulvard and CA-92, separating the railroad tracks from pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles, improving safety and traffic flow in the city. Watch the inaugural ride here .

28TH AVENUE: BUILDING THE CONNECTION
The new east-west street connection at 28th Avenue is underway. Crews are conducting the final grading on the west side, while beginning excavation on the east, bringing the project one step closer to creating the long-awaited connection for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles.
NEW STATION PROGRESS
Construction progresses on the new Hillsdale Station as the platform, ramps, and stairwells take shape (view video). The new station, relocated approximately one block north between 28th and 31st Avenues, features an elevated center-boarding platform. Passengers will no longer have to wait at a crossing to move between northbound and southbound trains, allowing for safer more convenient pedestrian access.
HILLSDALE STATION CLOSED THROUGH FALL 2020
The Caltrain Hillsdale Station temporarily closed on May 16, 2020, allowing for construction of the new track alignment and new station (due to open fall 2020), and the lowering of 28th Avenue. Thank you for your patience while we complete a project that will have long-term benefits for generations to come.
Project Background

Caltrain, in cooperation with the City of San Mateo, will raise the tracks and slightly lower the road (grade separate) at East 25th Avenue in San Mateo. This will improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians, and it will reduce local traffic congestion in San Mateo. In addition, the project  will create new east-west street connections at 28th and 31st Avenues; and as part of the project improvements, Caltrain will build a new elevated Hillsdale Station with updated amenities.
