Red Ribbon Week
Monday, October 27 - Friday, November 1
Hillview Counselors are planning fun and meaningful lunchtime activities:
 Monday - HawkTalk informational video
Tuesday - Tying red ribbons on the field fence during lunch to show the community our pledge to be drug-free
Wednesday - Students and staff wear red to help spread awareness

Thursday - "Drugs are a trick, not a treat." Counselors will be passing out candy to students who fill out pledges for how they will take care of themselves and stay drug-free

Friday -"Don't blow your future!" Bubbles and music in the quad with ASB and the counselors
Art Portfolio Showcase
Wednesday, November 13, 4:30 - 6:30 pm Art Room, B2

Students will show their art, photos, claymation movies, and Makerspace creations. This drop-in event will feature students doing pottery wheel demonstrations, presenting claymation movies on the Smartboard, and demonstrating their Makerspace projects. Feel free to contact Anna Kogan here . The art showcase will provide a more personal setting than during open house. Come anytime during the open hours.
Makerspace Class needs Legos
Makerspace class is looking for Legos. If you have any that you are ready to part with, consider donating your Legos to HIllview. Drop off at the office or the B2 art room with Anna Kogan.

The Miracle Worker and The Diary of Anne Frank - Faces of Resilience

The Miracle Worker and The Diary of Anne Frank will be combined into an evening of theatre celebrating two of the most iconic women of courage of our time, Helen Keller and Anne Frank. These women met unimaginable adversity with grace and resilience, offering us lessons in acceptance and meeting supremely difficult circumstances with gratitude and love. Celebrate Halloween! Come dressed up as a favorite character or as anything inspired by a book. Students can pose for their photo op and a trick or treat.

If your student collects more Halloween candy than you know what to do with, we have an answer! Service Team is participating in Operation Gratitude - candy care packages are sent to troops serving overseas. Candy drop location and dates available in the next newsletter.
Pets in Need come to Hillview
Thursday, November 7, lunchtime, PAC

Service team is excited to present more than 200 dog toys to Pets in Need at our upcoming lunchtime meeting. Anybody is welcome to attend and learn more about volunteer opportunities at this local no-kill shelter. Email here with questions.
MPCSD Parent Education Speaker Series
“Everything You've Always Wanted to Know About the Brain”
Tuesday, November 5, 6:30 p.m., Hillview PAC

David Eagleman, Stanford neuroscientist, author, television personality, and Oak Knoll parent, shares his research and experience on decision-making, how the brain matures through time, what it means to grow up in a digital world, and how the brain thinks about ingroups, outgroups, and empathy. He is the writer and presenter of The Brain, an Emmy-nominated television series on PBS and BBC.

Childcare and pizza dinner provided for children. Light snacks and beverages will be provided for attendees. Additional information here .
MPCSD Guest Teacher and Paraprofessional Recruitment Event

Make a difference in a child's life and have fun! No teaching experience? We can help! MPCSD is holding two recruiting events. All the information you need to apply will be available.

MPCSD needs a cadre of Guest Teachers and Guest Paraprofessionals ready to step in for our professionals on the days they are attending training or when they are ill. 

The School Board recently approved increasing the daily pay and added a bonus for all guest teachers who work long term in MPCSD. The new rates take effect November 1 here . If interested, but cannot attend the recruiting event, email here or read more at our Human Resources webpage here .

Stanford Kappa Alpha Theta's Annual 5k/10k October 27, 9 am/9:05 am, Stanford University, Koret Plaza. Theta Breakers raises money for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). CASA does incredible work training volunteers to look out for foster children so they don't get overlooked in the bureaucracy of the legal system.
