Please be advised that the following streets will be closed to traffic on Sunday, March 26, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.* as runners pass through the area:

DuSable Lake Shore Dr., Ida B. Wells Dr. and N. Michigan Ave. will remain open.


There will be rolling street closures within Grant Park beginning March 24, through Monday, March 27.


Grant Park will be closed to all vehicle traffic from 6 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, to approximately 3 p.m., on Sunday, March 26. As in years past, we are working with the Chicago Police Department to ensure that street closures follow a rolling pattern, so that as the final runners pass through, the streets will reopen to allow traffic to return to normal as quickly as possible. Please make adjustments to your schedule to avoid any inconvenience on race day.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A combination of education, training and experience suitable to obtain a plumber’s license as issued by either the State of Illinois or the City of Chicago, plus two years of journey-level work experience as a plumber. A valid plumber's license issued by either the State of Illinois or the City of Chicago is required. A valid State of Illinois driver’s license is required. NOTE: You must provide your driver’s license, transcripts or diploma, professional license, or training certificates at time of processing, if applicable.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Under general supervision, supervises journey-level plumbers engaged in the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems, including municipal water distribution and sewer systems. Studies blueprints, specifications, and work orders and inspects work sites to assess installation, repair, and maintenance work required. Determines equipment and materials needed and plans work processes. Prepares cost estimates of labor, materials, equipment, and manpower needed to complete installation and repair jobs. Plans, assigns, and schedules plumbing jobs based on established priorities and the availability of resources. Orders materials, equipment, and supplies and coordinates their delivery to work sites. Supervises work in progress to ensure efficiency, timeliness, and adherence to safety procedures. Inspects completed jobs for compliance with specifications, established quality standards, and applicable municipal codes. Oversees crews engaged in installing new and repairing breaks in existing municipal water mains and sewer lines. Oversees plumbers maintaining and replacing water meters. Troubleshoots and assists in performing complex plumbing installation and repair jobs. Trains staff in work and safety procedures and evaluates their performance. Works with other trades at job sites to ensure efficiency of operations. Maintains work records, prepares project status reports and approves employee time records. Investigated complaints of water leaks. Performs related duties as required.

DUTIES

  • Under general supervision, directs and manages work operations citywide, supervising multiple work crews and monitoring work operations involving the construction, maintenance, or repair of the City's sewer pipelines or water distribution system that includes water meters.
  • Directs the day-to-day water and sewer work operations citywide, supervising Foreman in charge of construction or maintenance and repair work crews working on water mains or sewer pipeline systems and water meters.
  • Works with management in planning and scheduling construction or major repair projects and reviewing daily emergency requests or complaints due to water leaks or sewer and water main breaks; works with engineers to prioritize jobs and makes daily work assignments.    
  • Reviews daily manpower reports and equipment resources and works with management in re-allocating personnel to ensure adequate manning of crews and efficiency of operations.
  • Inspects work sites to ensure work crews follow required safety procedures and that work sites are in compliance with departmental, federal and state safety standards and regulations.
  • Monitors work in progress to assess productivity and the quality of work performed by crews working on the construction or repair of sewer or water mains and their related structures including catch basins, valves and water meters. 
  • Responds to incidents and troubleshoots problems at job sites, working with resident engineers, foremen and work crews in resolving problems delaying or preventing the construction, repair, or maintenance of water and sewer mains. 
  • Advises Superintendent level managers on the status of water and sewer main jobs citywide, including emergency repairs that have escalated in scope and size. 
  • Responds to complaints regarding incomplete or inadequate restoration work and ensures proper actions are taken to correct problems. 
  • Monitors and evaluates work performance of subordinate staff; initiates and enforces disciplinary actions as required; enforces personnel rules.
  • Prepares a variety of productivity and performance reports.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

 

Six years of general construction or skilled trades work experience in the areas of water, sewer or underground utilities construction, of which two years are in a supervisory role related to the supervision of work crews performing water main OR sewer pipeline repair, maintenance or new construction/ installation work. A valid plumber’s license and a valid State of Illinois driver's license is required.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to successfully complete an interview. Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

  • Proficiency in a position requiring knowledge of the municipal sewer or water distribution system, including water meters.
  • Proficiency in a position requiring knowledge of the maintenance and repair of water mains, valves, water hydrants, sewers, catch basins and other appurtenances.
  • Experience in a position requiring troubleshooting complex sewer or water malfunctions.
  • Previous service in the Armed Forces of the U.S. on active duty continually for six months and have not been dishonorably discharged.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 

  • Prepares and oversees the preparation and processing of personnel forms to initiate personnel actions, leaves of absences (e.g., FMLA-Regular, and Intermittent, Paid Parental, Medical-Personal Disability, Duty Disability, Military, VESSA, Union), resignations, retirements, return to work (RTW), Reasonable Accommodation (RA), Return to Work Reinstatements (RTW) from LOA’s, disciplinary suspensions, discharges, dues changes, etc.
  • Will be responsible for highly sensitive medical information.
  • Maintains the federally mandated OSHA logs regarding the reporting of workers compensation claims for the whole department.
  • Reports and manages all workers’ compensation claims to 3rd party administrator and enters on the job injury claims into the iCE system and generates wage statements for each claim.
  • Participates in Quarterly Claims Review Meetings with Management Team and Claims Administrator regarding work related claims.
  • Tracks work related injuries for OSHA logs (ORD & MDW) through Intelex.
  • Works with managers to assist as a backup when HR Personnel Liaisons are on vacation or on leave of absence.

·   Assists with hiring assignments as needed and especially for mass hiring (i.e., Seasonal Pool Motor Truck Drivers, Aviation Security, and General Laborer-Aviation, as examples).

  • Acts as a Personnel Officer, administering personnel programs and personnel processing operations, maintaining employee personnel records, and interpreting personnel policies and procedures to employees.
  • Provides information and responds to employee inquiries regarding benefits, pay, and personnel programs and processes.
  • Provides Benefits orientation and coordinates training and staff development activities.
  • Interprets and explains personnel policies and procedures to managers and supervisors.
  • Informs Payroll regarding appropriate Payroll Data Entry (coding) for all Leaves of Absence (LOAs) processed.
  • Completes verifications of employment for employees.
  • Interprets and explain CBA to employees and supervisory/managerial personnel as needed or requested.
  • Good organizational skills to organize projects.
