Porter Moser Day

Tomorrow, Wednesday,
May 30, is
Porter Moser Day
at
Saints Peter and Paul School.

Porter, a graduate from the
Class of 1982
is being recognized,
not only for the success of the
Loyola Ramblers
basketball team this year, but also for his value system and strong
Catholic faith.

All are invited to the festivities which are being held in our gym at 12:45.

During the assembly, our students will hear from Mr. Glowaty, who was Porter's principal.

Mr. Schmecht will reminisce about coaching Porter in
8th grade.

Mrs. Phillipp, our Jr. High Math teacher, will share memories about being Porter's classmate at
Benet Academy.

Mrs. O'Malley, who is coordinating the festivities along with Mrs. Olsen, our Marketing Director, will then present Coach Porter with a series of
special gifts
to commemorate this special occasion.

Mr. Moser will also share some of his back story with the children and offer them advice on their future and engage in a short
Q & A session.

At the end of the assembly, time permitting, every grade will be able to have a group picture taken with our guest of honor.

Our principal, Mrs. Meskill, has also designated tomorrow as an out of uniform day encouraging students to dress in either Loyola or SSPP colors.

SSPP Trivia
When our school was founded in 1853....

. ..students could not aspire to play basketball at Loyola University as neither were yet in existence.

Loyola University of Chicago was founded in 1870 by Father Arnold Damen, S.J., and went under the name Saint Ignatius College until it was renamed Loyola University in 1909.

As for basketball, the game as we know it today was created by Dr. James Naismith in December 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts
