June 2022

Hello fellow HR pros!

In last quarters newsletter David spoke of resilience. I don’t know about you but that word is used quite exhaustively these days. Because it has been and continues to be trying times in the world of HR. We’re still in the midst of a pandemic – one where we’ve been able to enjoy a bit of a reprieve but cases are starting to tick back up. Many organizations are still working thru vaccine requirements, remote work protocols, and more. Add to that the demand for labor in a time when there are more openings than people applying, higher costs for everything including salaries, much ado with legislation, and of course everything else in between. It’s a lot. Which is where Kansas SHRM comes in. We continue to provide best in class programming and resources to help you navigate this environment. Speaking of – have you signed up for the next installment in our free virtual diversity series? It’s a must if you’re working on DEI initiatives in your org. And though it seems far away, the 2022 Kansas SHRM State Conference is fast approaching! Our Manhappiness speaker line-up is stellar! For those of you who remember how awesome Paul Long’s presentation was in KC a few years ago – he’ll be back to MC for a day and share more about the Fundamism movement too!

If you’re reading this and have thought about volunteering on your local chapter board, or maybe you’re just now considering joining your local chapter – do it! The networking and resources can’t be beat. We’ll also have a few positions open at the state council level in 2023 so think about the role you could play in advancing the HR profession not just in your town, but statewide.

Now, I’m off to the SHRM Conference in New Orleans – excited to check in with thousands of HR peers from across the globe. If you’re going and want to connect please drop an email to office@ksshrm.org with your email address and phone number and I’ll reach out.

Keep up the great work I know ya’ll are doing!!

NEW SHRM CERTIFICATION ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

SHRM certification eligibility criteria got a big makeover for 2022. If you perform HR duties of any kind, you could be a candidate. Here’s what you need to know…

You can apply to take the SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification exam if you:

  1. Have general HR-related responsibilities primarily in an operational role, such as implementing policies, serving as the HR point of contract, or performing day-to-day HR functions; or
  2. Have a working knowledge of HR principles and practices; or
  3. Are pursuing a career in the field of HR.

The SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) requirements has also changed. You are now eligible for the SHRM-SCP exam if you:

  1. Have at least 3 years of HR work-related experience primarily in a strategic role (developing policies, overseeing the execution of integrated HR operations, directing the entire HR enterprise, or leading the alignment of HR strategies to organizational goals); or
  2. Have held the SHRM-CP credential for at least 3 years, and have acquired strategic-level work experience or are pursuing a strategic-level role.

Still not sure you have the knowledge base you need to pursue certification? Check out the new SHRM Body of Applied Skills and KnowledgeTM (SHRM BASKTM), formerly the SHRM Body of Competency and Knowledge® (BoCK®). The SHRM BASK explains the key concepts of each competency and provides proficiency indicators for all HR professionals and proficiency indicators that are specific to the advanced HR professional.
