Worship this Sunday

Join us for worship this Sunday, March 16th for the Second Sunday of Lent as we continue our journey with Jesus to Jerusalem.  This Sunday we will hear the passage from Luke where Jesus tells his followers that he must go to Jerusalem and tells them how he wishes he could gather them like a hen gathers her chicks.

Watch the service live on our Facebook page at 10:30 a.m.

Lent Study

Begins March 12

For the season of Lent we will gather on either Wednesday nights from 5:30-7:00 pm for food, fellowship and book discussion or Sunday mornings for the Adult Sunday school class from 9:15-10:00 am.

We will use the book Pause as our guide and books can be purchased for $10.  Sign up will begin on Sunday so please sign up or let Pastor Matthew know if you would like to participate so we can order the proper amount of books.  A description for Pause can be found below.

“Pause: Spending Lent with the Psalms invites us to take up the spiritual practice of encountering, sinking into, and deeply engaging with one psalm each week during Lent and Holy Week.

The season of Lent encourages Christians to consider a different pace—one of slowing down, noticing, pausing—than what our dominant culture values. Each chapter helps readers to connect an image drawn from that psalm, such as paths, faces, blessing, tables, waiting, thanksgiving, listening, being alone or abandoned, and hands, with their own lives. At the close of each chapter, readers are invited to try a different prayer practice to help them continue to reflect on the theme and psalm each day.

This intentional engagement—without feeling burdensome—opens just enough space and time for a creative spiritual practice to flourish, sustaining the life of faith during the Lenten season in ways that can make a difference in God’s world.”

Return Trip to Cuba

Tiara Kemp Attending

Highland is excited to announce that Tiara Kemp will visit the Taguasco Church in Cuba March 10-19 through a partnership with First Presbyterian Church in the City of New York.

Tiara writes about the trip: " The mission team is traveling to Cuba to install a much-needed water filtration system while partnering with Living Waters for the World. We are providing clean and safe drinking water to the local congregation. In addition to the installation, we will be educating the community on essential hygiene practices and the importance of proper water intake for overall health. Our goal is to empower and equip them with the knowledge and resources to improve their daily lives, fostering long-term well-being and sustainability."

Tiara will provide updates about the trip and we hope to bring together a presentation following her trip. Please keep her and this whole trip in your prayers.

Happy Highlanders

Sunday, March 30th

Join the Happy Highlanders as we go outside our normal schedule and Please note this event is on a Sunday. We hope you can join us Sunday, March 30, atn4pm for the Maryville College Spring Concert at New Providence Presbyterian Church. Bruce and Pam will plan to arrive at New Providence early in order to save space for us to sit together. If you have questions, please call Pam at 970-290-4683.

Through music, connections can be made and unity can be achieved. Despite the current socio-political climate, the tour — themed around folk legend Bob Dylan’s 1964 song of the same name — is designed to inspire perseverance through those changes, according to Stacey Wilner, senior lecturer of music and director of choral activities at Maryville College.

“In times of change and uncertainty, music has a unique ability to connect us, provide comfort, and spark introspection,” Wilner said. “My hope is that audiences walk away from our performances feeling a sense of shared humanity and hope. The repertoire we’ve chosen offers a reflection of resilience, compassion, the enduring power of community, and the comfort found in a spiritual connection to something greater than ourselves.”

RSVP to Pastor Matthew or Pam Clifford if you would like to attend this Happy Highland event.
