ARE PEOPLE EAGER TO GET BACK TO THE DAILY COMMUTE?
Many people have been lauding the forced removal of the daily commute by the Covid-19 related lockdown measures that have meant so many have been working from home over the past months. Research from the University of Haifa highlights how commuting-related stress can be harmful.
UNCOVERING SHARK MIGRATION IN ISRAEL
New research from the University of Haifa’s Leon H. Charney School of Marine Sciences shows that Israel’s sharks travel about 30 miles between the human-altered habitats along the shores of Hadera and Ashdod from season to season, in a single-day commute.

Eyal Bigal, lab manager at the University's Morris Kahn Marine Research Station, said it was surprising to have such a high number of sharks in the area, considering that the waters off the Israeli coast were less productive than almost any other marine environment, making it the desert of the oceans. RESEARCH IN THE KINNERET MAY
HELP PREDICT EARTHQUAKES
Research by a group of Israeli and international scientists has produced a geological map of the Kinneret to help predict earthquakes in the region.

Dr. Michael Lazar, of the University of Haifa’s Department of Marine Geosciences, notes that the Kinneret is a unique place in terms of the geology and the seismicity tectonics. The lake has remained a mystery for many years due to the presence of a layer of gas in the sediment on the seafloor, which has caused havoc with the conventional methods of looking into the subsurface.
