We welcome Amber Simpson (she/her) to journey with us through the Lenten season. She is an abstract alcohol ink artist who lives and works in Anniston, Alabama. Amber is designing a piece of art for Sardis Baptist Church that will evolve through the season. Each Sunday morning she will unveil the work she's done which will culminate on Easter morning. During the week, Amber will share centering words and invite you into a time of reflection. Continue reading for the first week's installment, and to learn more about Amber.
SECOND WEEK OF LENT: MIDWEEK CENTERING
by Amber Simpson
As I added to the painting this week, I got to think about Abraham and Sarah and how their relationship with God began. According to the Scripture, the Israelite nation was born from this covenant. I wonder what our Christian heritage would be like without it. Would it even exist?

Adding the red, yellow, and blue to the art piece came out of me acknowledging our beginning with God. I think back to my baptism— it was the beginning of my covenant. I think of Jesus’s baptism— it was the beginning of his ministry. Sarah and Abraham’s agreement with God was the beginning of a new nation, set apart from all the other cultures around it.

Furthermore, these primary colors make all the other colors of the rainbow; and similarly, our covenant with God make all the other parts of our relationship what it is.

So Sardis friends, ponder with me these questions:

1)   What does my covenant with God look like?
2)   How did my covenant with God begin?
3)   In what ways am I intentionally focusing on my covenantal relationship with God this Lenten Season?

I would love to hear your thoughts and answers to the questions above. Email me at ambersimpsonart@gmail.com .
GETTING TO KNOW AMBER SIMPSON

Self-taught, Amber began painting as a means for self and spiritual care to connect with God. Drawn to matters of the soul, her bold and vibrant paintings are rooted in her desire to connect to the Divine within herself and others. Amber's personal style exudes emotion and expresses deep discovery and love.

After completing her Master of Divinity, Amber delved even more into her creative practice with the passion to connect art to God in a holistic way. She uses meditation practices and "Holy Listening" to allow her intuition a voice. It is a collaboration between created and Creator. Amber relishes this relationship with the Divine.

In her spare time, Amber loves to hike, paint, read, drink coffee and spend time with her husband, Scott, and her son, Martin.
