For more than 30 years, The Emerald Youth Foundation has been working to support Knoxville Youth and prepare generations of GODLY community leaders.

The Foundation’s driving vision is to make Knoxville a city where EVERY CHILD IN EVERY NEIGHBORHOOD has the opportunity to lead a full life.

The Emerald Youth Foundation Prayer Breakfast showcases youth who have participated in the Foundation’s programs and activities. This prayer breakfast is the Foundation’s most important fundraiser.

The prayer breakfast will be May 2nd at 7:00 am at the Knoxville Expo Center

at 5441 Clinton Highway. The doors will open at 6:30 am.

Second Presbyterian’s GO Team will host a table at this breakfast. If you wish to join us for this very uplifting event, please call or text Tim Wright at 865-617-4025 or email him at otwright47@gmail.com.

It’s time again for the West View Elementary School Carnival. This is an annual tradition and the school’s biggest fundraiser.

Second Pres, as usual, will be operating the popcorn concession and providing soft drinks and water, and there are many ways you can help.

  1. Fill and donate “Jazzy Jars.” These are jars, water bottles, or other types of containers filled with small things children might find appealing. Examples are candies (no nuts), small plastic animals, Legos. gumballs, hair accessories, pencils, erasers, or anything that fits and looks pretty or interesting. These are VERY POPULAR and BIG SELLERS! Jars can be left with Jack in the church office and will be delivered to the school.
  2. Donate a basket for the silent auction.  Be creative!
  3. CAKES ARE NEEDED for the Cakewalk. These can be homemade or store bought. Leave cakes with Jack in the church office and they will be delivered to school the day before the Carnival. It would be great if 2nd Pres could donate 20 cakes.
  4. Come to the Carnival and spend money.
  5. Make a bid in the silent auction.
  6. Volunteer to help set up, clean up, or run errands for those providing activities.

Live it Out: Vacation Bible School

In Partnership with First Presbyterian Church

June 9–11, 2025 | 5:30–7:30 PM

Kid-friendly dinner provided each night

This summer, we’re excited to launch a new partnership between Second and First Presbyterian Churches as we come together to offer Vacation Bible School for all ages. This is a meaningful step in building connection between our congregations and an opportunity to grow in faith, together.

Our theme is Live It Out: Discover How to Love Like Jesus, a camp-themed VBS filled with music, Bible stories, crafts, and fun! Children will learn how their faith in Jesus helps them love, pray for, and serve one another.

While kids are enjoying their evening programs adults (all adults, not just parents of children) are invited to a special VBS experience led by Presbyterian authors Don and LindaJo McKim. Back to Basics will offer a thoughtful look at what it means to be Presbyterian and how we live out that identity in daily life.

There are plenty of ways to get involved—from volunteering with kids to helping with meals, music, crafts, or behind-the-scenes logistics. Whether you're participating or supporting, your presence makes a difference.

Who: Children and Adults (all adults!)

Where: First Presbyterian Church of Knoxville

When: June 9–11, 2025 | 5:30–7:30 PM

We are collecting Easter Eggs for our annual Easter Egg hunt! If you would like to donate, please place your filled, plastic easter eggs in the donation box in the atrium. If you have any questions, please contact Holly Grimm!

Our Lenten book this year is Hope Is Here!: Spiritual Practices for Pursuing Justice and Beloved Community by Luther E. Smith, Jr. We will be reading the book together with Church of the Savior and gathering weekly, on Thursdays at 5:30 pm, to discuss the readings. The book is available at all major online book sellers. A very limited supply of is available in the church office for $16.50 each.

We are meeting in the Barbour Room at 9:30 a.m. This class studies current events through the lens of faith using a weekly curriculum called The Wired Word.

All are invited – join us!

NOTE: There will be no FSF class on April 13th, due to the Palm Sunday brunch.

West View Elementary has a new, permanent donation bin in the atrium. This new bin is for donations and will have a list of specific items currently needed for the school. This bin will work like the donation bin for FISH – the list of items needed will change as the school’s needs change. The current need list will also be published in church publications.

Currently, West View is taking donations of school supplies in the atrium!

Please donate Crayola crayons, markers, colored pencils, Elmer’s Glue Sticks, Ticonderoga Pencils, and tissues in the donation box in the atrium!

Food & Friends is a ministry to college students and young adults. Following worship on the 2nd Sunday of the month, any college student or young adult who would like to go to lunch with other young adults is invited to meet up front. We will go to a local restaurant together, and lunch will be paid for by the church. If you would like to sign up to host, please use the sign-up link in the weekly email blast, the QR code above, or contact Jack Rosamond (jrosamond@2ndpres.org).

The next Food & Friends is April 13th.

Helping Address

Food Insecurity in

Knox County!

We are no longer asking for specific household and personal items to be purchased and delivered to the church, and the Fish drop-off bin has been removed. However, we do need specific funding to continue this long-time mission of the church. Once per month, our dedicated Fish volunteers buy, pack, and deliver food and household/personal items to families and individuals all over Knox County who call in need.

To positively impact food insecurity in Knox County, please consider giving directly to our church's Fish designated fund, from which all food, personal, and household item purchases are paid. To contribute, you can do so via Realm (click on "Giving," then "Fish" in the drop-down), or the church website (click on "Giving," then Fish in the drop-down), or by check ("Fish fund" in the memo line). Recurring donations would be most helpful.

If you are interested in participating directly in the Fish mission on any 4th Tuesday of the month (packing and/or delivering), contact Dick Dodson at rtdodson52@gmail.com.

If you take pictures at a church event, please send them to

Jack (jrosamond@2ndpres.org) for our newsletter and social media accounts,

so people know about the awesome things going on at 2nd Pres!

Sunday worship will never be cancelled due to weather, though there may be some last-minute modifications to the worship service. Please use your own discretion, however, in deciding whether or not to come. Safety is of primary importance; stay home if you don’t feel you can make it to worship safely. You can always join virtually. All other activities will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Any cancellations will be posted in Realm and on the website. Please check these if you are unsure.

Jack Rosamond, our Church Administrator, is taking a vacation the week of

June 2nd. In order to ensure that the church continues to run smoothly in his absence, we will need some volunteers to help run the front desk while he is gone. The responsibilities are simple (answering the phone, opening/locking the building, receiving mail), and the shifts are 3 hours long. If you are able/interested, please click the image above to sign up.

The family of Amy Garcia, Donna Downen, and Arlys Milligan

On the Pastoral Care page of our website, we will share more specific updates regarding those on our prayer list. The church staff will update it frequently.

Please get in touch with the Church Office with prayer concerns to be listed in the weekly email or bulletin (jrosamond@2ndpres.org, 865.523.2189)

Names remain on the prayer list for 4 weeks unless requested by the individual or a close family member of the individual to keep them on longer.
