Hats and Gloves for the Homeless

The Hat and Glove tree is back!

This year the GO Team is asking for new hat and glove donations in ADULT SIZES. The hats and gloves will be donated to the Resource Center at the Volunteer Ministry Center. The Resource Center aids homelessness through various programs to achieve permanent housing. The Second Pres GO Team serves breakfast several times a year to those in the program.

Hats and Gloves can be hung on the Christmas Tree in the Atrium or dropped in a bin near the tree. Items will be delivered to VMC the week after January 1.

Please help those working towards permanent housing through the Resource Center program at VMC!

West View Elementary has a new, permanent donation bin in the atrium. This new bin is for donations and will have a list of specific items currently needed for the school. This bin will work like the donation bin for FISH – the list of items needed will change as the school’s needs change. The current need list will also be published in church publications.

Currently, West View is taking donations of school supplies in the atrium!

Please donate Crayola crayons, markers, colored pencils, Elmer’s Glue Sticks, Ticonderoga Pencils, and tissues in the donation box in the atrium!

Food and Friends will resume in January and will be on the second Sunday of each month. If you are interested in hosting, scan the QR Code to sign up or let Pastor Tim know.

If you have not already pledged online through the church website, through the Giving tab in your Realm account, or with a physical card, there is still time. Please let us know how you plan to support the ministry and mission of 2nd Presbyterian as soon as possible. Thank you for your commitment to 2nd Presbyterian Church.

This month (DECEMBER), the FISH Pantry is in special need of household and personal items:

Dish Soap
Bar Soap
Shampoo
Deodorant
Toothpaste
Toilet paper
Maxi Pads

All food purchases and other items our coordinating team makes are paid for from a church-designated fund specific to the Fish mission. If you feel called to contribute to that fund, you can do so at any time of the year by check (Fish Fund in the memo line), the church website (click on “Give,” then “Fish” in the Fund drop-down), or Realm (click on “Giving,” then “Fish” in the Fund drop-down).

And, we can always use more volunteers -- either for packing in the mornings or delivering in the early afternoon -- to help expand the number of Knox County residents with food insecurity that we can assist. It's the 4th Tuesday of every month. Contact Dick Dodson at rtdodson52@gmail.com.

The Second Readers book for January is The Women by Kristen Hannah! Second Readers will now be meeting on the third Wednesday of the month, not the second. They gather at 11:30 in the Buckingham Clubhouse to have relaxed, but great, discussions on the various books they read. Bring a lunch and join Second Readers!
