Dear Richmond Waldorf School Community,
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is advising that individuals in
Higher Risk Categories
avoid handshaking and other close physical contact as a precaution to avoid contracting illness. Higher Risk individuals are defined as those who are older adults and people who have serious chronic medical conditions like: heart disease, diabetes, lung disease. Based on this recommendation, and to protect more vulnerable members of our student and faculty population, our daily practice of a handshake or embracing as each student is greeted by the teacher will change effective immediately.
Each teacher will select a greeting method for which they feel best adapts to their students. Most likely a hand wave will be the greeting.
(A ‘fist bump’ is also a form of greeting that we advise against.)
Classroom teachers are also sanitizing their space each afternoon: wiping desks, chairs, surfaces. The school janitorial company has been instructed to wipe all hard surfaces such as doorknobs, light switches, and railings.
We are taking precautions and continue to monitor updates from the CDC as well as our Accrediting organizations.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
