| | Waddle We Learn? Western Trails' Young Researchers Dive Into Penguins | Third-fifth graders in Western Trails’ Specialized Academic Classroom have been honing their research skills by studying different penguin species, taking notes on main ideas and key details, and writing summary paragraphs about their findings. On Wednesday this week, they proudly shared their work by presenting poster boards and answering questions from peers, parents, and school and district staff members, who stopped by to learn more about these unique flightless birds and to celebrate our budding researchers! | | Jay Stream 6th Graders Tackle Big Issues for Project X Presentations |
Sixth graders in Jay Stream’s advanced social studies class have been challenged to develop formal presentations for Project X, an assignment that called upon them to extensively research, map and critically analyze a major topic and then predict where it’s headed next.
On Tuesday in the school’s Innovation Center, they presented their findings to staff, parents and community members on thought-provoking topics such as barriers to a healthy diet across demographic groups, a comparison of homelessness and poverty in the UK and India, the social impact of COVID-19 vs. the Spanish Flu, the role of A.I. in the classroom and many more.
The projects helped to deepen the students’ understanding of the world and how they can shape its future. Way to go Jayhawks!
