Maximize the Potential!

Dear Friend of CCSD93,

Messages From

Superintendent Hill:

Student report cards for kindergarten-8th graders were posted to TeacherEase this afternoon. If you have not yet had the chance to review your child’s, you are invited to follow these directions to log into TeacherEase to view theirs!

Please contact your child’s school if you are having trouble logging in, and reach out to your child's teacher if you have questions about the standards scores. For more on standards-based grading in CCSD93, including an explanatory document, podcast conversation and video, visit www.ccsd93.com/SBG

Announcing Parenting in the Age of Social Media CCSD93 Parent Event on 4/8!

I’m thrilled to announce that all parents are invited to attend CCSD93’s Parenting in the Age of Social Media presentation on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. at the district’s Administrative Offices (230 Covington Drive, Bloomingdale) or live online at www.ccsd93.com/sm.

School Resource Officers Phil Jaffe of the Bloomingdale Police Department and Tom Andrejevic of the Carol Stream Police Department will share valuable insights on the lasting impact of a child’s online behavior and the potential social media pitfalls that every parent should be aware of. Attendees will gain key tips and practical information to help them navigate today’s digital world safely and responsibly with their children. The event will conclude with a Q&A session.

We hope you can join us! Spanish translators will be available on site. The live stream will also be archived for later viewing.

Please Take 5Essentials Survey by 3/28

Parents are invited to help improve our schools by sharing feedback through the Illinois State Board of Education’s 5Essentials Survey! This 10-minute survey provides insight into the effectiveness of our schools.

Our goal is for 20% of parents to respond by the deadline of March 28. Please take the survey at www.ccsd93.com/5E when you’re able!

State Assessments Start Next Week

Each year, all CCSD93 3rd through 8th graders take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR), which focuses on how our students are performing relative to the Illinois Math and Reading Standards. Students in 5th and 8th grade, also take the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA), which focuses on how our students are performing relative to the Illinois Science Standards.

Many of our schools are starting these assessments next week. Parents should have received a message on March 6 from reply@ccsd93.com detailing their child’s assessment schedule. Please review that message.

While these assessments yield only one piece of information about your child and the school’s progress, and students should not feel nervous, parents should speak with their child about the importance of doing their best on these tests.

Parents can make certain that their child is best prepared for these assessments by ensuring they:

  • Are present during the testing dates
  • Get enough sleep the nights before testing
  • And eat nutritious meals, especially breakfast, before testing

Please review the following for additional news and updates from CCSD93 and our partners, and have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Dr. David H. Hill

Superintendent of Schools

Guest Speaker Inspires Stratford Students to Rise Above Challenges!

This week, Stratford Middle School welcomed renowned speaker Nathan Harmon for its PBIS Trimester 2 Celebration. He shared a powerful and personal message about overcoming challenges, standing up to bullying, developing a growth mindset, making positive choices and never giving up when life gets tough. A huge thank you to Mr. Harmon for bringing such an impactful experience to Stratford’s students!

Cloverdale 5th Graders Innovate Pollution Solutions

Recently, Cloverdale 5th graders were challenged to combine what they’ve learned from science and engineering standards to imagine, write a description for, build a model of, and present on a Pollution Solution: an invention designed to protect the Earth’s resources and environment!

Fan, Pick, Learn! Roy DeShane 2nd Graders Build Math Skills Together

Recently, Roy DeShane 2nd graders practiced math fact fluency and identified word problem structures using a cooperative learning strategy called Fan and Pick! In it, students take on different roles to work together: one fans out cards featuring problems or equations, another picks one of the cards and reads it aloud, a third answers the question and the last student evaluates or praises the response.

Students switch roles throughout this engaging activity, keeping everyone consistently involved in learning! It’s especially beneficial because it helps students at all levels of English fluency build confidence, strengthen communication skills and deepen their understanding. Way to go, Bulldogs!

Jay Stream After-School STEM Events Take Flight!

Jay Stream Middle School has been teaming up with the DuPage County Regional Office of Education to host exciting monthly after-school STEM Events, where students of all grade levels dive into hands-on science, technology, engineering and math projects.

This week, participants explored aerodynamics by designing and testing whirlybirds! During previous events, they built catapults and experimented with STEM toys. Up next in April: balloon cars!
