NEIGHBORHOOD LEADERSHIP - TRUE2U MENTORING - COMMUNITY HEALTH - YOUTH ENGAGEMENT
JANUARY 2023
1) HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones a very Happy New Year! NLI is eager to leap into 2023 with continued momentum, as our portfolio of programs centered on neighborhood leadership, community health, youth engagement and True2U mentoring improves the lives of residents. This year, we will also welcome in a new Executive Director. We all look forward to working with you and strengthening our community!
2) SEEKING BRAVE MENTORS

The BRAVE Engagements Mentoring Program successfully launched in four Cleveland Metropolitan School District schools in December! BRAVE hopes to help 4th and 5th grade students develop strong social and emotional skills through a highly interactive curriculum facilitated by volunteer mentors who serve as role models. During the first session, mentors and students started to build rapport through interactive activities focused on how to build healthy relationships. Throughout the remainder of the program, students will learn other valuable social and emotional skills such as self-leadership, conflict prevention and resolution, resisting negative peer pressure, and how to recognize and manage emotions. By meeting just once a month with students through BRAVE, volunteers can have a big impact on students’ lives, hopefully fostering even more student confidence, engagement with school, and inclusive school communities. We are still looking to add mentors to make the BRAVE Engagements program even stronger. To learn more and apply visit https://www.neighborhoodleadership.org/brave.

3) WELLNESS INITIATIVE WRAP-UP

2022 was a special year for NLI. Understanding that our community was still coping with pandemic-related challenges, we released our first-ever Community Priorities Survey. The community responded and NLI amended its programming to address and improve residents' overall health. NLI's 2022 Wellness Initiative included webinars, presentations, free meditation & breathing sessions, access to community resources, book club offerings and more - all presented with the intention of helping people better understand the 8 Dimensions of Health. We hope you took advantage of these offerings! As you'll see below, we now have a Community Priorities Survey for 2023. We invite you to please take a few minutes and share your input with us!
2023 COMMUNITY
PRIORITIES SURVEY
Greetings friends of Neighborhood
Leadership Institute!

You are all aware of the many issues and challenges our community faces on a daily basis, and we applaud your efforts in being an engaged and informed resident. NLI wants to remain engaged with you and seeks your input on some of our community’s most pressing issues. Below, we ask questions to gauge what issues you, our audience, deems important when it comes to our community’s long-term health and well-being. After reviewing responses from our audience, which includes over 1,300 Neighborhood Leadership Cleveland graduates, NLI will follow up with a variety of efforts in 2023 centered around the issues deemed most important by you and fellow NLI supporters.

This same process resulted in NLI's Wellness Initiative in 2022. We were proud to offer webinars, book club convenings, special presentations and resource information over the course of last year.

This new survey for a 2023 initiative should take 5-10 minutes of your time to complete. We truly appreciate your input and look forward to your continued engagement over the next 12 months.

FROM THE BOARD - ED SEARCH UPDATE

The Board of Directors for Neighborhood Leadership Institute remains actively engaged in the search for a new Executive Director for the organization. The position was posted in the fall of 2022. The review of applications began in December. At present, the Board of Directors and its search committee are working to schedule interviews with candidates for the position. We look forward to sharing additional updates on this search process with you and anticipate introducing NLI's new Executive Director to the community later this year!

COMMUNITY HEALTH
The NLI Community Health Team is gearing up for two more Drive-Through Diaper Distribution events. Begun during the pandemic, these events are very popular among new and young families. NLI partners with other community organizations to provide information, referrals, and valuable goods needed by expecting Moms and Moms with newborn babies. Stay tuned as more information will be released soon. We have events planned for February and April!

TRUE2U MENTORING
True2U mentors have completed the first three sessions with all 8th graders in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District for this school year. During those sessions, mentors and students worked together to help students develop deeper understandings of themselves; make connections between their interests and personalities; consider potential career pathways; and think about high school choice as a next step on the path they envision for their futures. This spring the mentors and students will focus on making good choices, career exploration, values, relationship skills, and self-reflection. The True2U team would like to thank all of our volunteer mentors for their hard work and dedication.
