DID YOU KNOW that results of a study from Food and Chemical Toxicology shows the power of silymarin, the active ingredient in milk thistle extract?
Diquat is a widely utilized herbicide. Inadvertent exposure to it can result in detrimental effects on both animal and human health, particularly causing liver damage. The objective of the study was to examine the protective properties of silymarin against diquat-induced inflammatory damage in the liver by alleviating oxidative stress and inhibiting certain inflammatory cytokine pathways.
Silymarin exerted a protective effect against diquat-induced liver damage by attenuating oxidative stress and suppressing inflammatory cytokine signaling.

Steve: Yesterday was the earliest sunset of the year. This is the perfect time to remind you that we have ways to limit our exposure to artificial light in the evening when applicable, thus lessening its adverse effects.
Evidence from a study in Brain Medicine demonstrates that light at night, due to altering our circadian rhythm, doesn't just affect sleep quality, it fundamentally alters immune function, triggers neuroinflammation, disrupts metabolism, and influences mood regulation. Here are few simple ways to limit our artificial light exposure.
- Reduce evening screen time or at minimum, go off screens 30 minutes to one hour before bed.
- Choose to be in areas with warmer light colors after sunset. This is especially prescient in your bedroom and bathroom. When you're close to bedtime, turn on only one low level light in your bedroom and bathroom. Or, if you have a dimmer, put it on low. Give yourself at least 30 minutes to one hour with low level, warm light. This helps to draw out melatonin.
- Maintain consistent sleep schedules.
