It’s hurricane season again. To be prepared, nothing is more important than checking your roof to make sure it's secure. This year we made a DIY video to show you what to look for, both outside and inside your home.

Roof Restoration

This year, to help our neighbors who could not afford the roof repairs they needed, we partnered with roofing material manufacturer GAF to offer free Roof Restorations. The program has been a great success, helping families across Harris County.

Harvey Recovery

Many of our neighbors needed help recovering from Harvey, and we have been able to help, thanks to our generous donors, especially CITGO, who provided funds to repair 186 homes over the past four years. We just completed the final CITGO-funded Harvey repair, for the Williams family in East Houston.

Free Home Repairs

Low-income homeowners in the East End may qualify for free repairs, including Roof Restoration, repairs to structural, electrical, and plumbing systems, exterior repairs, and modifications and safety upgrades.

Free Small Business Repairs

Community Revitalization goes beyond homes. We also partnered with Republic Services to repair four small businesses and organizations affected by COVID, and who serve our East End neighbors. Our repairs helped Joy Mission in Magnolia Park respond to safety and health issues in their client-choice food pantry.

Hurricane Preparedness Kits

For our neighbors in the East End, this past weekend we partnered with The Home Depot Foundation to supply 200 families with Hurricane Preparedness Kits, as part of the Back to School event hosted by Silvia Trevino, Harris County Constable Precinct 6. Karla Cisneros, City Council Member Dist H, also participated in the event.

Our busiest Volunteer Home Repair Program

months are April and October, but all year long we inspect homes and complete contractor work. One October volunteer crew will have the pleasure of meeting Mr. Garza, finishing repairs to his home in South Union. But first, we will have contractors complete extensive repairs.

Thanks to our partner Reliant Energy for once again supporting this important program that provides a window AC/Heat unit, 2 box fans and an air purifier to 50 of our neighbors suffering through the Houston summer. We're glad to help people, like Ms Williams in Acres Homes, breathe easier indoors.

Rebuilding Together and AARP expanded the Home Safe education series with five Do-It-Yourself videos to keep homeowners safe and healthy. The fifth video will be released on Saturday, August 21: “Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Detectors – Selection and Where to Install” with advice from the Houston Fire Department.
