A Note from Scott and Marsha

Did you enjoy that reprieve from the heat this past weekend? It seriously only takes a couple days under 62 degrees in the morning to make everyone's mood better! We all know North Carolina will experience three false falls before we officially settle into cooler weather. While some consider this an NC myth, it is actually quite accurate. Either way, 1 down and 2 to go is fine by me!

Since we are talking about the number 3 today, just look at these 3 adorable fans! Yep, that's right. This is the FGS fan club and, according to their mom, they are our biggest fans!
From left to right, meet Ally (6yo), Ewan (2yo), and Avery (8yo). If you are wondering what they are doing, they are watching our Landscape team work on their property!
We did a very large renovation to their back yard years back and a little birdy told me they watched out the window for long periods of time. One of them even went outside to check on the crew and inspect their work.
This image warms our hearts. You can learn so much from watching. Hands-on experience is helpful too, but they were mesmerized by the equipment, materials, and our team's smiling faces each day.
We can always be hopeful the next generations to come will still have an interest in gardening and landscaping! Without dedication, commitment, and the drive to work hard, well, we are all gonna be screwed! LOL! Y'all are out there digging your own patios and planting your plants with pick axes. So when you want to complain about the young ones, let's give them a chance and be willing to mentor and encourage!!
Now calling all moms, dads, friends, mentors, and more: give the kiddos a shovel, dirt, and some seeds for fall veggies and let them help put vegetables on the table! We have all you need to make your fall garden beautiful and healthy! We are also your biggest fan!

FERNS
Looking for something light and airy for your indoor space? Need to soften up your living areas without adding more fluffy blankets? Your search stops at ferns! These tropical plants would love to grace your space with their gentle demeanor.
They are perfect for the kitchen or bathroom with plenty of window light because they love the humidity those areas provide. They don't require full sun but do need lots of bright indirect light to thrive! Don't let them get too dry - ferns love water. With a wide variety to choose from, we're here to help you pick out the perfect fern for your space!

BIRD BATHS
If you are a lover of all kinds of creatures, you definitely need a bird bath in your garden! It can brighten up an outdoor space while also providing a crucial water source to your woodland friends. You'll be able to bird watch while they take a dip.
Bird baths also attract beneficial insects, so the overall health of your garden will improve as well - sort of like a natural pest control system. Or, if you have a pollinator garden, you can fill a bird bath with marbles or stones before adding in water, and all sorts of pollinators now have a safe place to land and enjoy a drink.

HETZ MIDGET ARBORVITAE
We have another excellent shrub for you this week: the Hetz Midget Arborvitae! It is native to North Carolina, drought tolerant, can survive in many types of soil, and grows to be 3-4ft tall. It is an evergreen shrub with a rounded shape and can be planted in a spot with full sun or partial shade. It makes a great companion shrub to other, more vibrant or colorful plantings and excellent in foundation beds.

Don't let the weather fool you into thinking you still have a month left - some seeds need to be planted within the next week or two! We've got some tips and to-do's to prep your gardens and beds for fall veggies if you need a reminder or if it's your first year with a fall garden. Don't be intimidated - you got this!
