Traveling back
to the years: 2019 - 2020

Our updated mission statement!
In 2019, the staff and Board of Directors of Partners in Housing worked for many hours to update our agency mission statement.  We all agreed that the new statement “Partners in Housing guides families in housing crisis from insecurity to stability, self-reliance and prosperity”, represents the varied circumstances with which families are dealing and the opportunities provided by Partners in Housing to make life long, lasting changes.

The Board and staff also developed and approved a strategic plan for growth to serve more families and to serve the families in our program with more in-depth engagements. We are committed to assisting the adults and children in our program and to hearing input from our Partners. We added a pre-program component for families on our waitlist and a post-program component for families who have exited our housing along with a new Housing Navigation staff position!

The Family Solutions Collaborative
In early 2019, the State of Family Homelessness Report (click to view) was created to support efforts being made by the City of Colorado Springs as they held several neighborhood meetings and developed their 2019 Homelessness Initiative.
The Family Solutions Collaborative was formed by Partners in Housing, Catholic Charities of Central Colorado, and Family Promise to facilitate a closer network and system to more effectively assist families in our region. The FSC held a summit in October of 2019 to formally engage other family service providers in support of the overall efforts and goals of serving families comprehensively.

Getting creative in the age of COVID
Shortly after 2020 began, the Partners in Housing staff and Partner clients were forced to deal with the effects of COVID19 with quarantines, school and daycare issues, and the health and economic factors involved. As we modified our service delivery plans, we also hosted COVID testing sites and transformed the dining hall at the Colorado House into a second free Donation Center supplied with many items needed by families, but had become hard to find.
We partnered with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) to host test sites for staff, staff families, and program families.
Our second Donation Center at Colorado House was stocked with high-need items like food, diapers, hygiene items, cleaning supplies, in addition to kitchenware, bedding, clothing for newborns and infants, and clothing for interviews.
It was readily apparent the “digital divide” furthered by the pandemic was negatively impacting the adults and children in our program. Partners in Housing worked with funders and with PCs for People to provide computers and internet at our cost in all our housing units!
The BIG Reveal!
And the news you’ve been waiting for . . . . .

As part of GPR Properties, along with Greccio Housing and Rocky Mountain Community Land Trust, Partners in Housing hired Medici Consulting Group to assist in the development of the property at Bentley Commons. Along with Medici, Way Architects and NES Planning have formalized the development plan for the new construction of 168 additional units at the site!!
These 1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartments will be provided as affordable rentals to the community, at 30% to 60% area median incomes. Partners in Housing will utilize 16-18 apartments for families in our Self-Sufficiency Program as we work to assist more families!! At this time, the project is moving forward with 4% Low Income Housing Tax Credits and Private Activity Bonds approved. Construction will begin in 2022, so watch for more updates!
The apartment building picture above is already on the Bentley Commons property and is one of the two light gray buildings in the upper left corner of the development plan below. The dark gray buildings are the 168 units that will be built starting in 2022!
