CONSTRUCTION ADVISORY
Week of December 6

Storm sewer pipeline will be placed overnight across Gateway Road

While Garden of the Gods Park is closed overnight on Monday, Wildcat Construction will install a new storm sewer pipeline underneath Gateway Road west of 30th Street. Garden of the Gods Park is closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Starting at 9 p.m. on Monday, December 6, Wildcat Construction will close Gateway Road at 30th Street to excavate a trench and place a new storm sewer pipeline. Since the new pipeline requires a deep excavation, the work is best performed under a full road closure for crew and public safety. Gateway Road will reopen by 5 a.m. A temporary driving surface will be present for approximately one week until the area is paved.

In advance of the pipeline work, trail users may notice changes to the pedestrian trails and crossings in the immediate area of the Gateway Road and overflow parking area access. All trail traffic should follow construction signs, pavement markings and crew instructions.

Construction Activities planned

  • Construct the temporary entrance to Garden of the Gods Park at Gateway Road, which will provide vehicle access from 30th Street to the Park from the south while the new entry roundabout is built
  • Century Link will be working on Water Street between 30th and 31st Streets for several days starting on Monday, December 6 to relocate a transmission line from overhead to underground as part of this project. There will be traffic control with possible flagging in the area
  • Continue storm sewer pipeline installation
  • Continue water pipeline work on Fontanero Street between 30th and 31st Streets
  • Build new retaining wall foundations along 30th Street
  • Continue full road closure of 30th Street between Gateway and Mesa Roads (View the detour route)

In addition to the full road closure of 30th Street between Gateway and Mesa Roads, occasional lane or shoulder closures are possible within the work zone. As needed, flaggers will be present at the 30th Street and Gateway Road intersection to assist with traffic control during detour construction and paving operations. General work hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional extended work hours or weekend work may be allowed for specific and necessary construction activities.
Temporary entrance to Garden of the Gods Park at Gateway Road set to open in mid-December
Since early November, the contractor team has been placing dirt from the newly excavated water quality pond and grading the area south of Gateway Road and west of 30th Street for the new temporary entrance to Garden of the Gods Park. The short temporary paved roadway will provide vehicle access from 30th Street to the Park from the south while the new entry roundabout is built. Asphalt paving is planned on Friday, December 10 and will take several days to complete pending weather and resource availability. The project is currently on schedule to move traffic to the temporary entrance in mid-December.
