CONSTRUCTION ADVISORY

May 25, 2023

30th Street now open between

Gateway Road and Fontanero Street

30th Street reopened today after a year-long closure between Gateway Road and Fontanero Street. The team worked extended hours and around recent weather events to hit the target of opening the road before Memorial Day and the busy summer season at Garden of the Gods Park.

30th Street is critical for Colorado Springs and reopening this highly-traveled corridor was a priority. 30th Street is the gateway to one of the most visited attractions in the Pikes Peak region, Garden of the Gods Park. The road is one of five designated wildfire evacuation routes for northwest Colorado Springs.

New shoulders on 30th Street between Fontanero Street and Mesa Road create space for emergency vehicles and evacuation. Shoulders also provide room for bicyclists to ride. The roundabout at Gateway Road and the new Foothills Trail underpass reduce congestion and improve safety for corridor travelers and visitors to Garden of the Gods Park. The roundabout also creates a “sense of arrival” for the park entrance.

Drivers should expect periodic lane and shoulder closures for finishing work this summer. In particular, work on two retaining walls on the east side of 30th Street between Mesa Road and Gateway Road will continue through August.

This is the last planned construction advisory for the project. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned in early June. Thank you for your patience during construction.
