Today, we honor former Palmetto Bay Councilwoman Larissa Siegel Lara. Many years ago, Councilwoman Siegal Lara fell in love with Palmetto Bay's diversity, beautiful parks and excellent schools. She and her husband Pablo have called Palmetto Bay home for more than 20 years and it’s the place where they raised their four children. In 2014, her dedication to this community led her to run for Village Council Seat 3 and win. While in office she worked hard to build the community, improve our parks and services and increase revenues. She was instrumental in the realization of the Village’s Unique Abilities Fair; Jonathan’s Day, which is a partnership that centers around establishing park programming and helping parents connect with resources and to foster inclusion in our community. Jonathan’s Day is named after Jonathan Mizrachi, a 12-year-old South Florida boy with autism. She also dedicated her time to many community organizations including Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Habitat For Humanity and The Education Fund’s Teach-A-Thon. After completing her term as Councilwoman in 2018, she was named Executive Director of the Deering Estate Foundation. Mrs. Siegal Lara’s background in the private industry, with philanthropic organizations and in public service, made her the perfect candidate for the post. She was responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the Foundation as well as fundraising, marketing and community outreach, as well as reporting to the board of directors. Mrs. Siegel Lara also enjoyed a 17-year career at the Burger King Corporation, with various roles including Vice President of IT operations, Vice President of Global Business Services and Vice President of Management and Training. She also held various engineering roles at IBM and Motorola.
We salute you and thank you for your commitment to public service and improving daily our Palmetto Bay!
