Donna Latshaw is another one of the amazing founding women of Palmetto Bay. Donna moved from Philadelphia with her husband Chuck and two small children, Charles Jr. and Kimberly to what is now Palmetto Bay in 1983, and has been paving the way for PB ever since. She was one of the founding members of the Alliance of Coral Reef Estates (A.C.R.E) Homeowners Association in 1989 and in this role was instrumental in representing the community win many battles with Miami-Dade County regarding zoning issues before incorporation. She was also a key player in making our incorporation a reality. She was one of the original Mothers of Palmetto Bay and founding member of the Palmetto Bay Steering Committee. The first meeting to discuss the concept of incorporation of our Village was held in Donna’s living room in 1995. She worked vigorously for seven years until our incorporation became a reality in 2002. Donna was also very involved in local schools and a member of the Heritage Task Force where she dedicated her time and talents to creating many events including the 15th Anniversary event in November 2017. She has also helped us document and display the history of our Village at Village Hall and the Thalatta Estates. Donna was also a successful in her career as a medical assistant and as a children’s swimming instructor for over 30 years. She has always been a dedicated mother and now grandmother. It is with great sadness we mention, that Donna lost her daughter Kimberly Latshaw Ortiz earlier this year following a courageous, 21-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Kimberly will always be remembered by our Palmetto Bay family.
We salute you and thank you for your commitment, dedication, and love of our Palmetto Bay!
