Palmetto Bay resident Karen Baez-Wallis is the Director of Emergency/Trauma Services at Jackson South Medical Center. Baez-Wallis is an extraordinary frontline worker that has dedicated the last 26 years of her life to keeping us safe. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she organized the Jackson Health South Employee Vaccination Program and due to her stellar creation and execution, the model was mirrored during the community vaccination program. She began her career at John Hopkins Hospital in Maryland, where she obtained invaluable knowledge during and post the September 11 attacks in 2001, treating anthrax exposed patients. She is an experienced nursing director in transformational leadership and team building, skilled in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Emergency Services, Healthcare, Clinical Research, and Basic Life Support (BLS). Baez-Wallis is also raising her children right here in Palmetto Bay with her husband, Robert Wallis, who is a veteran and frontline worker with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
