REMINDER: We have a union meeting scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, April 20 at 6:00 p.m. Our meetings are held in the Great Hall at 710 Olive Street in St. Paul. Please bring your Training Verification Card to show at check-in. Face coverings are required and capacity is limited at 70 people.

On Friday, March 12, 2021, wage allocations were ratified by the Delegate body.

Line 1 is the current wage, line 2 are the allocations recommended at the February Union meeting by union members, line 3 is the new wage going forward. Anything in red were required amounts.

Health and DC Pension, in blue, is a new program put forth by the trustees of the Carpenters and Joiners Pension Fund called Glide Path. Please see the next section below "Glide Path" for more information.

On Friday, March 12, 2021, the Delegate Body approved a new Pension Plan Opportunity called Glide Path. Glide Path, which was represented in BLUE in the above wage allocations, combines our health care/dollar bank with our Defined Contribution Pension Plan. Here are the main points you need to enroll in this new opportunity:

3. Under the Glide Path, that additional money can be put toward your DC Pension Plan. You need to have 6 months of reserves in your Dollar Bank before the additional funding will be applied to your pension.

4. You can automatically enroll in the Glide Path by going to www.carpentersandjoinersbenefits.com beginning May 3, 2021.

By enrolling in the Glide Path model, the plan will automatically take your age into consideration. The younger you are, the more monies will go into your DC Pension Plan. As you get older, the additional monies go into your Dollar Bank to help cover the cost of health insurance post retirement.

The Carpenter’s Union is a self-insured organization. For years we have purchased the discount power of Blue Cross and Blue Shield, which is the insurance card all of us have been carrying for the better part of our carpenter careers. UMR, under the umbrella of its parent company, United Health, is our new insurance carrier. NOTHING will change as far as coverage is concerned. Rates, costs, dental and vision will all stay the same.

With the induction of the Affordable Care Act, Minnesota now has the ability to be more competitive within the insurance market. For profit health care had the ability to compete for the first time and that is why the union has changed insurance companies.

If you are in the process of a treatment or a claim, please feel at ease in knowing that nothing will change. That is one of the benefits of being a self-insured organization.

Recent tragic events within our Brotherhood on and off the job site have brought into focus our need for an organized response to our members and their families in times of need. Local 322 has organized a new committee named "Local 322 Helping Hands". The mission statement is "To assist members of Local 322 and their communities during times of hardship financially and through organized volunteer efforts."

Our primary source of funding will come from voluntary donations from our members, fundraising events, and donations from our community partners. We will also have organized volunteer efforts for members who may not need a monetary donation; rather assistance at home when tragedy strikes. In the future, we will also expand our efforts into our members' communities to provide services to people in need of our specialized skill sets.

Helping Hands Committee meetings will be held prior to our regularly scheduled General Membership meeting (3rd Tuesday of the month). We plan on being flexible with this meeting time and utilizing virtual meetings when it will better serve our membership.

Together we can build Helping Hands into an organization that will make positive impact in our Brothers and Sisters lives when they need it the most.

Local 322 provides up to 10 $500 scholarship awards to members and their dependents each year. You can find the application and instructions here.

Applications and transcripts are due by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. If we have more than 10 eligible applicants, we will hold a random drawing at our June 15, 2021 Union Meeting. All applicants will be notified if they are a recipient or not.

Those who have won a scholarship award from Local 322 in the past are eligible to apply again.

We would like to recognize and congratulate the following members who have recently completed the apprenticeship program and advanced to Journey-level status. Congratulations on completing your apprenticeship! (Members listed are those who graduated since the last newsletter)

Please take a moment to review the list of recently reported members who have passed away. It is our honor to read their names at the monthly membership meeting and hold a moment of silence in respect.

The beneficiary of a member who has passed away (meeting the criteria required) may be eligible for a $1,000 funeral donation benefit from the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and $200 from Local 322. Further details on these benefits, other benefits available and eligibility can be found here.
