Dear Scott,
April is Earth Month- We have a selection of community cleanup events listed below (including the City's Clean and Green which you should sign up for by April 7). If you use the parks, please join your neighbors in a friendly Earth Day event at your local park. The MWRD is selling rain barrels for significantly less than retail. See below for details and put a rain barrel to use in your yard this spring.
The Chicago Police Districts through the CCPSA are looking for input via a survey regarding ending or limiting Chicago Police enforcement of traffic stops and vehicle violations. See below for links to the survey and other information.
Have a nice weekend,
Alderman Scott Waguespack
| | 2025 Street Cleaning Calendar | |
Next week, street sweeping will occur in sections 6, 7, and 8 (Hamlin Park and South Lakeview). Click on the map above to see your section's schedule.
Please be on the lookout for signs and make sure to move your vehicle on your scheduled day (south and east sides of the street are normally done on the first day, north and west on the second; please watch for signs). Sweepers will do more than one pass on the block in their initial cleaning but will not come back to clean sections outside of their officially scheduled day.
Please take the time to help clear the curb in front of your property to keep the sewers flowing well. Any leftover landscaping debris from winter months should be bagged and put in the alley by your trash cans. Please do not sweep landscaping debris into the street. Piles of leaves and heavy garbage also clog the sweepers and will cause significant delays. Other large objects like branches and metal will also damage the sweepers, so please remove them from curbs.
Residents can view street sweepers in real time using the Sweeper Tracker online tool.

April Beat Meetings
14th Police District-
1433- April 15, 6pm
Pulaski Park

1434- April 16, 6pm
Bucktown Wicker Park Library
1701 N. Milwaukee

14th District Twitter
14th District CAPS- 312-744-1261
Beat 1932 CAPS Meeting Recap (Ashland/Lincoln/Fullerton)-
There were 4 robberies, one more than this time period (2 months) last year. There were 5 burglaries, 3 to residences, 1 to a business, and 1 to a garage. This is a reminder to register your bikes and to keep them locked up, even when in a garage. If your bike is stolen, you can check the stolen bike registry.
There was one arrest in this beat this period- at a traffic stop on the 3000 block of N. Ashland, officers arrested a person who had an illegal firearm. There was a district arrest of a male and female who had committed at least 6 burglaries citywide; the businesses affected are cooperating in the prosecution process.
A representative from the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce was there and suggested having a business safety seminar with the 18th and 19th Districts, which the police agreed to. He also brought up the SSA camera incentive (this incentive exists in other areas with SSAs as well; click here for SSA 27 Lakeview and here for SSA 33 Wicker Park Bucktown). Police have more coverage in the business areas late at night/early morning when the majority of damage to businesses is going on.
It was asked about having the police patrol the CTA more often. There are overtime initiatives to do this, and CAPS officers do ride the train for several stops in their district when they have an opportunity.
A couple of things that were brought up in last week’s 1434 update were mentioned here as well. The police are encouraging anyone with a camera that faces the public way to sign up to have their camera registered. This program doesn’t give the police access to the cameras themselves, just lets the police know it’s there so that officers will know where to go right away if a crime occurs. Regarding the scammers that have been pretending to collect money for causes who use your phone and switch your donation amount- they are now going door to door rather than just collecting on the street. Make sure not to open your door to anyone you don’t know.

19th Police District Council Monthly Meeting
Join the 19th Police District Council as they welcome a representative from the Avondale Restorative Justice Community Court (RJCC). A mission of the RJCC is to end the harmful cycle of revenge and recidivism. The courts resolve conflict using restorative practices in which the participant admits wrongdoing and commits to a series of actions to repair the harm their behavior caused. They are assisted by a team who provides accountability and support. If the participant successfully completes all the agreed upon tasks, the charges are dismissed and arrest and court records are expunged.

Rain barrels capture rainwater from your roof and save it for later use. Rain barrels can help prevent basement backups, street flooding, and sewer overflows by keeping rainwater out of the sewer system.
You can use rain barrel water to:
- Wash your car
- Water your lawn or garden
- Clean work boots, tools, and bikes
Rain barrel water is naturally free of chlorine, lime, and calcium and some gardeners swear their plants prefer it!
