32nd Ward Newsletter July 11, 2025

Dear Scott,

The Bucktown Garden and Roscoe Village Garden walks are this weekend. Join your neighbors for some family fun during the two community events. Next week, Sheffield Garden Walk kicks off their 54th Annual Garden Walk!

As many of you have heard, there is finally some positive movement on the old Lincoln Yards site, with JDL Development taking over the portion of the site north of Cortland. You can hear a little bit of the vision from JDL as they partner with Kayne Anderson to reenvision the site and move forward with a project that will work. As we get more detailed information from the development team, we will be having community meetings to share concepts and take feedback. I would point out that throughout the time Sterling Bay has had the site, we had encouraged them to move forward with their existing entitlements to develop, providing feedback from the surrounding businesses and community but without any barriers from our office. In fact, we consistently shared and provided business opportunities on the Lincoln Yards site that were not accepted, including the possibility of the new Chicago Fire stadium that eventually landed at the 78.

Regardless, as I stated this week, I am pleased to finally see progress on the site with JDL and Kayne Anderson taking on the development with a new vision that will work. We will be working closely with the surrounding communities and city officials to revitalize the area with new housing and development that will help grow our local economy. I believe JDL is committed to a new way forward for this site that takes community input seriously and is actually capable of delivering a plan that is successful for our neighborhoods and the city as a whole.

The Chicago Police Department has issued a notice as they search for a man who assaulted two women in Roscoe Village this week. See the notice below. Thanks to Roscoe Village Neighbors for assisting with camera footage showing the offender. Police officers were canvassing this week looking for more video footage and trying to track down the offender. If you have additional information, the department is asking for you to share it with them, and reference RD#JJ322675. Thank you for your assistance.

Finally, the Park District has rolled out their full list of Movies in the Park and you can find all movies and locations here for more family fun this summer.

Have a nice weekend,

Alderman Scott Waguespack

2025 Street Cleaning Calendar

Next week, street sweeping will occur in sections 19, 20, and 1 (Bucktown and Roscoe Village). Click on the map above to see your section's schedule.

Please be on the lookout for signs and make sure to move your vehicle on your scheduled day (south and east sides of the street are normally done on the first day, north and west on the second; please watch for signs). Sweepers will do more than one pass on the block in their initial cleaning but will not come back to clean sections outside of their officially scheduled day.

Please take the time to help clear the curb in front of your property to keep the sewers flowing well. Any landscaping debris should be bagged and put in the alley by your trash cans. Please do not sweep landscaping debris into the street. Piles of leaves and heavy garbage also clog the sweepers and will cause significant delays. Other large objects like branches and metal will also damage the sweepers, so please remove them from curbs.

Residents can view street sweepers in real time using the Sweeper Tracker online tool

Volunteer at Taste of Lincoln

Volunteer at the 41st Annual Taste of Lincoln Avenue on Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26! Proceeds from Taste have been funding neighborhood parks for decades. If you’ve ever sat on a bench, watched your kid conquer a slide, or enjoyed a peaceful stroll under a shade tree in Jonquil—you’ve got this festival (and volunteers like you) to thank.

Here’s what we’ve got in store this year:

  • Live music (no cover bands named “Dad Rock Revival,” promise)
  • 8 curated local restaurants bringing their A-game
  • Vendors, inflatables from Lakeshore Sport & Fitness
  • And a brand-new Art Walk that throws it back to the beloved Lill Street Art Fair

The Wrightwood Neighbors can really use your help! They are looking for folks to assist with their Friday night Spirits Tasting—a fancy little pop-up featuring some seriously tasty pours. If whiskey, camaraderie, and community are your vibe, this one’s for you.

They also need judges for the Saturday Morning Pet Parade —last year’s debut was a huge hit, and this year it’s shaping up to be even better. If you’re a spirited animal lover who can keep a straight face while ranking dogs in costumes or cats in strollers, this is your moment. We’re also on the hunt for a fun-loving MC who can hype up a dachshund in a hotdog outfit without missing a beat.

Ready to jump in? Sign up to volunteer here!

Rally for Public Transit

On Saturday, July 12 at 12pm CTA transit riders will be rallying at Daley Plaza to demand Governor J.B. Pritzker, Senate President Don Harmon, and Speaker Chris Welch call a special session to pass a transit funding package.

Illinois regional transit agencies CTA, Metra, and Pace are facing a $770 million fiscal cliff in 2026. Transit operations are not prepared overnight, and failure to pass a spending package in May means those agencies have been forced to start planning service cuts and job layoffs. The residual impacts of the collapse of our public transit system will be catastrophic.

The rally is led by Better Streets Chicago with support from Access Living, CTU, Elevated Chicago, and more. Go to rally.savetransit.org for more info.
