32nd Ward Newsletter July 25, 2025

Dear Scott,

The weather keeps going back and forth between unbearable heat and flooding. Please make sure to check on your relatives and neighbors (and pets) in the heat and to clear off your catch basins to help the water drain when it rains.

There are a number of fun fests coming up in and around our ward this weekend, including Wicker Park Fest and Taste of Lincoln. National Night Out will also be taking place in a couple of weeks. We will also be holding a shredding event soon, where you can get rid of old documents as well as drop off old prescriptions and enter for the chance to win a rain barrel. See below for more details on these and other events.

Have a nice weekend.

2025 Street Cleaning Calendar

Next week, street sweeping will occur in sections 4, 5, and 6 (West Lakeview and Hamlin Park). Click on the map above to see your section's schedule.

Please be on the lookout for signs and make sure to move your vehicle on your scheduled day (south and east sides of the street are normally done on the first day, north and west on the second; please watch for signs). Sweepers will do more than one pass on the block in their initial cleaning but will not come back to clean sections outside of their officially scheduled day.

Please take the time to help clear the curb in front of your property to keep the sewers flowing well. Any landscaping debris should be bagged and put in the alley by your trash cans. Please do not sweep landscaping debris into the street. Piles of leaves and heavy garbage also clog the sweepers and will cause significant delays. Other large objects like branches and metal will also damage the sweepers, so please remove them from curbs.

Residents can view street sweepers in real time using the Sweeper Tracker online tool

Beat 1931 (Belmont/Ashland/Fullerton/river) Recap

This beat had an increase in burglaries during the last two month period, compared to this period last year. There were both garage and home burglaries and one of a bar. It is believed some of the residential ones are connected as they took place on the same day. Bikes were the main thing taken; always make sure to lock your bike, even inside your garage. Gaming systems and tvs were also taken in some cases; these are generally taken to pawn shops. Pawn shops are supposed to post items and their serial numbers in a database for the police, as well as take a copy of the person’s ID. They can be fined or lose their license and be shut down if they don’t do this. Make sure to keep track of your serial numbers in case you should ever need it. A package theft offender was taken into custody on the 1600 block of Belmont. There were no robberies in this beat in the past 2 months. There is a robbery/burglary team that adjusts their hours based on patterns. Always call 911 if you see anything suspicious as this is one way police are allocated.

When the floor was opened to residents, there was concern of kids firing off fireworks including resulting in an awning being damaged; Lathrop is getting camera footage to the police. There were also a couple of kids who were detained after the meeting in connection with this and other events.

There was also concern about a fire in a vacant building at 2731 N Hoyne. It was brought up that there are low wires and debris on the Leavitt side of the buildings that are south of Diversey that may be a fire hazard; this was brought up at the internal security call meeting and pictures were sent to the CHA.

Aldermen vs. Police Softball Game

This past weekend, I and a number of my colleagues played a game of softball against the Chicago Police Knights baseball team. This was a charity game benefitting inner city youth. Money was raised, bruises were earned, fun was had by all, and the Aldermen took home the cup. Thank you to the police for participating in this event.

Sponsor the 2025 Shop for Schools Fundraiser!

Help the LRVCC Give Back October 8–10

Be part of something big! Sponsor the 2025 Shop for Schools Fundraiser, coming to Lakeview and Roscoe Village October 8–10 — where community, commerce, and education come together.

This three-day shopping event drives customers into local stores, where participating retailers pledge to donate 15% of in-store pre-tax sales to local schools. Shoppers choose which school to support, and the Lakeview Roscoe Village Chamber of Commerce (LRVCC) will contribute an additional $6,000 to the top six fundraising schools.

Sponsorship can include:

  • Logo placement on the Shop for Schools website
  • Logo and website link in the event newsletter
  • Inclusion in all printed marketing materials
  • A dedicated social media post(s) from the Chamber
  • A sponsor blurb with link sent to all participating schools after the event
  • Category exclusivity to help you stand out

Last year’s funds supported classroom supplies, playgrounds, library books, teacher grants, and student needs. Your sponsorship helps local schools and promotes your business — all while building community. To sponsor or learn more and to become a sponsor, contact Julie at Julie@lrvcc.org before August 15th.
