35 Years of Transformation and Strength!

From its first public event in the dark basement of a local church on a snowy December afternoon, the C.G. Jung Association of Central Ohio has grown to become a touchpoint for clinical professionals and community members seeking to explore their individual meaning and purpose in life and the deeper collective patterns that develop within society and culture. Thirty-five years on, we remain committed to that mission and to celebrating our individual journeys and our collective strength.

In the Tarot World, 2024 is the Year of Strength. Strength is Key VIII of the Major Arcana. Numerologically, 2024 is 2+0+2+4=8. The Strength card speaks not only to our physical strength, but to our inner strength and to the human spirit’s ability to overcome any obstacle.

In today’s world, and with the past challenge of Covid, reaching 35 years is no small accomplishment. We thank all of you – our earliest visionaries, founders, past and present board members, volunteers, program participants, donors, and valued members. Your support has brought us to this historic moment.

We have some exciting events planned for our anniversary so stay tuned. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Why I Serve - Catherine Ballard, Board Chair

I think I have always found myself aligned with Jungian thought – I just did not know it. I thought of what it meant to be introverted or extroverted.

I was interested in the many archetypes of a personality (feeling strong, weak, intuitive, indecisive). I was fascinated by the notion of synchronicity: you are singing a song and turn on the radio and the song is playing; you see an old friend’s picture in a yearbook, when the phone rings and it is that person. I would wake up from a dream and know that another part of me, or a world that I was able to tap into, was reaching out—the collective unconscious. But I did not know that these terms were developed by Carl Jung.

And so, finding Jung was like coming home: I discovered and continue to discover concepts that open windows and doorways for me as I continue along my path of “Who am I and who do I want to be as I grow up?”

Upcoming 2024 Programs

On Thursday, February 29, 2024, Dr. Judith Cooper will be presenting a program on the Trickster—the god of the unexpected, of luck, of coincidences, and of synchronicity.

The Trickster has many names such as the collective shadow (Jung), the Self (Doty), the personification of the Self-Care System (Kalsched), a metaphor for the Psyche (Samuels), the spirit of the transcendent function (McNeely), and the image of the individuation process itself.

CEUs will be available. More details to follow.

Dr. Cooper is a clinical psychologist and diplomate Jungian Analyst. She has lectured widely on the anima/animus and the use of film in clinical treatment. She presented “Hail, Aphrodite!: Re-sacralization of the Goddess of Love & Sex in David Ives’ Venus in Fur” at the IAAP Congress in Vienna.

She and a colleague have also aired a 7-part podcast series called Healing Cinema, which was posted on the C. G. Jung Institute of Chicago’s website. The series analyses classical and contemporary films from a Jungian viewpoint including Hitchcock’s Rear Window, The Lost Daughter, and Tar.

Our Bauza program will be held on April 6, 2024, and will be amazing. Our speakers Dr. Jim Fidelibus and Dylan Rivard will explore the use of psychedelics in psychotherapy.

Dr. Fidelibus, a JACO board member, practices as a clinical psychologist and Jungian analyst in Columbus, Ohio, and is a contributor to the newly released Chiron publication, “Psychedelics & Individuation: Conversations with Jungian Analysts.” He has also spoken on the topic at the Pacifica Institute.

Mr. Rivard is a clinical psychologist in Golden, Colorado. His practice includes the use of certain psychedelics, such as ketamine, as part of the individuation process. There will be more details to follow but be sure to save the date now!

Online Book Club - Man & His Symbols

At our second of this four-part series, we will be discussing “The Function of Dreams” and “The Analysis of Dreams” sections of Man & His Symbols conceived and edited by Carl Jung.

The Club meets every other week.  Next up:

February 11: “The Problem of Types” & “The Archetype in Dream Symbolism”

February 25: “The Soul of Man,” “The Role of Symbols,” & “Healing the Split"

Even if you miss a meeting, feel free to join us at any time.
