3rd Quarter 2019 Newsletter
Letter from the Executive Director

Back to school is all the buzz right now. You or someone you know might be hunting for that school supply list received back in May or June. You might be watching and waiting for those school supply prices to drop. You might be asking, "is my kiddo/loved one ready academically and emotionally for the new school year?"

United Ways around the world work hard in tandem with other nonprofits, businesses, and individuals to give all kids the tools and resources they need to succeed. This quarter, I want to draw your attention to the early years, specifically prenatal to 5th grade. Fabulous research comes out every day on the value of early childhood programs and services backing the important role of quality childcare, parent/caregiver education, and equitable educational opportunities for all.

The findings are astounding and lead to the development of many wonderful programs and services. Here at United Way Manitowoc County, we value not only the research and findings, but also serving families with connections to resources right in their own backyard, empowering them to reach their fullest potential and live their best possible life. As you and your loved ones gear up for the new school year, know that you can call on your United Way for help in finding local resources.

From all of us here, we wish everyone a safe and enjoyable start to the 2019-2020 school year. Additionally, if you haven't already, check out our website to learn more about United Way's Early Connections and Literacy products and services , as well as our 2018 results .

Warm regards,

Day of Action 2019 Impactful for Community

At the end June, United Way Manitowoc County mobilized 80 volunteers – more than twice as many as in 2018 – to make an impact on United Way’s global annual Day of Action. Volunteers completed projects at 10 different nonprofit organizations, and their efforts from that morning have a combined value of over $6,350. Thank you to all of the energetic volunteers – individuals, company teams, groups of friends and scout troops – who donated their time to make positive change in our community.

Fundraising Campaign
Do you assist your place of work with nonprofit fundraising efforts, or does your company wish to begin? We are hosting four information sessions in August and September for both new and veteran Employee Campaign Coordinators - United Way champions who empower businesses and co-workers to make a difference and strengthen communities by organizing and executing workplace fundraising campaigns. In these sessions, we'll dive into how to run a successful United Way fundraising campaign at your company and share exciting updates about our organization, provide you with new marketing materials and messaging, share tips, and answer any questions you may have. Additionally, we'll provide you with information on corporate volunteer opportunities and share the products and services that are free to you and your employees.
To register for one of our sessions, click here to submit this form. If you have questions or are unable to attend one of the four sessions, email Courtney at courtney@unitedwaymanitowoccounty.org
