Wildly loving and creative God,
As we celebrate Pride this month, we give thanks for all your LGBTQ+ children, so deeply beloved and beautiful. We bless your name for the diversity that delights you and enriches each and all of us. We bow in gratitude for our saints and ancestors who by their courage, fierceness, resisting and acting up have opened the way for us to live authentic, whole and joyful lives.
This Pride, we face threats to LGBTQ+ people, including attacks on hard-won rights that should be settled law. Help us to keep on striving for justice, that the dignity of every person may be honored. We pray especially for transgender youth facing the loss of gender-affirming health care; bless them with communities who see and know them for who they truly are, make a way out of no way and guide them to places and people that support their thriving.
On Pride Sunday and every day, we are grateful for the community and witness of the Church of the Ascension, and for the gifts and presence of our LGBTQ+ members. Strengthen our care for one another and help us share your goodness with neighbors and strangers. May the cups of water we offer with lemon and love refresh all who march and all who serve. We know you will be showing up in all kinds of fabulous ways, and we thank you.
Amen.

Long Term Prayers
Pray for: Pray for Allejandro and Jesus, Barbara, Brielle, Dorothy, Elaine, Ellen, Hannah, Judith, Jurek, Lucas, Luz, Stewart, Jen, Bishop Gretchen, and Alice & the Kisiya family. We pray for all devastated by the genocide in Gaza, and for a just peace in Ukraine, Sudan, Haiti, and the Holy Land.
Please keep these people and intentions from our long-term prayer list in your own prayers. We hope to keep our intercessions in the liturgy both faithful and fresh, as we persist in prayer for those who need it.

A Prayer for Spiritual Communion
If you are attending any of our services online, we invite you to use this prayer at communion.
In union, O Lord, with your faithful people at every altar of your Church, where the Holy Eucharist is now being celebrated, I desire to offer to you praise and thanksgiving. I remember your death, Lord Christ; I proclaim your resurrection; I await your coming in glory. Since I cannot receive you today in the Sacrament of your Body and Blood, I beseech you to come spiritually into my heart. Cleanse and strengthen me with your grace, Lord Jesus, and let me never be separated from you. May I live in you, and you in me, in this life and in the life to come. Amen.

Welcome our Guest Preacher for Pride This Sunday, June 29! We are thrilled to welcome the Rev. Cynthia Black to Ascension this Pride Sunday. She has advocated for LGBTQ+ inclusion in the church in numerous capacities, including as a founding member of Claiming the Blessing (which worked for Marriage Equality) and as part of the Integrity legislative team for many General Conventions. She is also an award-winning filmmaker of the documentary Voices of Witness Africa, a film she made about the experiences of LGBTQ+ Anglicans in Africa.
Recently retired after 39 years of ordained ministry, Cynthia served churches in Minnesota, Michigan and New Jersey. She is married to her college sweetheart, Dr. Rebecca Walker (fun fact: Mother Liz preached at their wedding in 1988). To read more, click here.

Pride Water Table Volunteers: This Sunday, June 29 - Every year, Ascension serves cold water (with a twist of lemon!) to PRIDE Marchers as they pass the church. We need lots of volunteers to make this happen. If you would like to volunteer, please speak to Steve Hubbard (smh278@nyu.edu). Ascension is a great place to watch the march, celebrate PRIDE, and serve our community!

Welcome our Summer Intern: The Rev. Joo Young Hong! Joo will be at Ascension this Sunday for Pride and will participate in our services as deacon and sometime preacher throughout July and August. Joo received her MDiv from Union Theological Seminary in 2009 and completed her Anglican studies at General Theological Seminary in 2024. She is a chaplain and manager of Spiritual Care at a hospital in Brooklyn. Joo discerned her call to the priesthood with the support of her sponsoring parish, St. Mark's in the Bowery, and is currently a transitional deacon. Joo is anticipating her priesthood ordination this September and is looking forward to her diaconal placement at Ascension this summer.
| | No 6pm Meditation & Sacrament Service This Sunday, June 29, – Due to the Pride March, we are canceling the 6 p.m. Meditation and Sacrament service this week. See you back on July 6! | | Livestream Update from the Parish Administrator- Local Live has merged with Live Control, who will now be managing our livestreaming services. The good news: Live Control offers new features that we hope to take advantage of in the coming weeks. The not-so-good news: it may take a little time to smooth out all the wrinkles during the transition. The livestream links and buttons in our eBulletin and on the website will remain the same—most of the changes are happening behind the scenes. As we get more familiar with the new platform, we will share updates and tips along the way. If you do notice an issue, please email the parish administrator at apjones@ascensionnyc.org. Thanks for your patience and support as we make this move! | | People Who Lunch, Wednesday, July 2; 12:30 p.m. Are you at home during the day or working near the church? Please join us for lunch on the first Wednesday of every month for some simple food and good conversation. Please let us know you are coming (info@ascensionnyc.org or 212-254-8620)) so we know how much food to prepare! (You are also welcome to bring your own lunch if you prefer; we will have coffee, tea and water on hand.) We hope to see you there! | | Haiti Project - News from Martel - Construction on the new high school building for St. Luke's Episcopal School in Martel is underway. We've completed the foundation. In our May email update, the New York Haiti Project Board of Directors proposed a fundraising goal of $50,000.00. Click here to read more about the project and to learn how you can help. | |
