Alderman Dowell Statement Opposing Cannabis Dispensary at 1420 S. Michigan Ave.

"As the Alderman of the 3rd Ward, it is my responsibility to represent the best interest of my constituents. That includes overseeing the establishment and operation of businesses within my ward, especially businesses that have an outsized impact on a neighborhood’s quality of life such as a cannabis dispensary. To that end, I write today to support my constituents overwhelming opposition to Midway Dispensary’s proposal to open a cannabis dispensary at 1420 S. Michigan Avenue.

My opposition stems from information gathered during two open community meetings on the issue, hundreds of conversations with constituents about a potential dispensary in the area, having received 400 letters and emails opposing the dispensary – 177 of which I hand delivered to ZBA staff – and direct discussions with the proposed operator of the dispensary."
State St. Temporary Closure Date Change

The State St. closure alert that was previously sent on Tuesday, December 8th has been changed. Dearborn Engineers & Constructors will be temporarily the closing State St. northbound lanes between 15th St. and 16th St. from Wednesday, December 16th to Friday, December 18th This change is due to delays in the delivery of the chiller to be lifted at 1529 S. Lower Metra Fairs Part of Fair Transit South Cook Pilot

The Metra Board of Directors backed a Cook County initiative to improve transit service on the South Side of Chicago and in the south suburbs, starting with a 50 percent reduction in fares on the Metra Electric and Rock Island lines in January.

Fair Transit South Cook is a three-year pilot project to boost public transportation in a region that is
more transit-dependent and economically disadvantaged than other parts of the county. The pilot will provide residents in the Metra Electric and Rock Island service area with greater opportunities to make transit their choice for getting to work, school, shopping, and regional destinations.

For the pilot program, Metra will charge its reduced fare rates – normally charged to seniors, persons with disabilities and K-12 students – for all tickets to all riders on the lines starting in January. Those rates, which require no changes to Metra’s fare structure and can be implemented immediately, will be assessed as the pilot progresses. Cook County will cover the difference between the reduced fares and full fares for three years
