Dear 3rd grade Parents/Guardians:
Today I held an assembly with 3rd-grade students about expectations. This assembly is due to the increase in behavioral issues. All our rewards and extracurricular activities are supposed to be educational and are meant to reward hard work and appropriate school conduct.
In the past, we have used an Individual Behavior Sheet (IBS) to document various infractions that occur in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, recess (outside), and any other areas of the school. We will use these forms for the remainder of the school year. The IBS will assist in making fair decisions on participation in the field trip and other activities provided by the school for each child. In the event your child does not exhibit the expected behaviors, he/she will not be permitted to attend the field trip or other activities.
To assist our students, Mrs. Caba, our school’s social worker, has provided lessons to entire classrooms focused on bullying, harassment, and the treatment of others and will give them a reminder this upcoming week. We will also discuss and work with students on how to work with stressful situations, and help with problem-solving skills.
If your child receives an IBS, this sheet will be sent home and will need to be signed and returned. In the event that a student completes the IBS with three (3) separate infractions, he/she will receive a recess/lunch detention, and could require a parent/teacher conference via zoom or phone call.
We have the highest expectations for our students and we know that they need a little help in achieving them.
Please, find the information used in the assembly at the end of the newsletter.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Thank you,
Mrs. Conway
